Can my vassals join the HRE ?

Hi, I'm currently playing as the Austria, emperor of the HRE. I released a bunch of countries in France in order to weaken him, then I diplo-vassalize them. I did the same in south-Lithuania.

But I'd love if they join the HRE, can they do it by themselves or do I have to annex them ?

I believe the standard technique is the annex the land yourself, then add it to the HRE, and then release the vassals. They will be members then. But you of course take more AE since you annexed the land rather than released nations.

no vassals can't join HRE. Even when vassals are in HRE they can't add their land to HRE.
