The Wiki claims that being Poland is a starting requirement but not a completion requirement. Assuming this is correct, then starting as Poland and forming the Commonwealth would still allow you to get the achievement (but you would not qualify for the achievement if you started as someone else and somehow formed Poland).

I learned recently that you only need to start as Poland. You can form other tags, including the Commonwealth.

Thanks guys. that answers that for me.

How do I enter a golden era, does that just happen automatically?
I'm a great power but that one hasn't happened yet for me.

You have to have completed at least three (I think) Age Objectives. So say "Present on Two Continents," "Own a Large City," and "Embrace Renaissance" in the Age of Exploration. Once you've met that requirement, you may at any time start a 50-year-long golden age from the Age Objectives interface.

I just got cossacks as an estate in my Poland game, is Establishing the cossack regiments worth doing?
What version are you playing on? The latest version changed how seizing land affects estate land. Some privileges exempt estates from land seizures. This privilege is one of them. I’m not sure if the special units is worth it.
