Can i give my units more equipment than they need? In rl units were freguently given extra machine guns or sub machine guns or even armored vehicles to bolster them. In game this could be done by giving units 250 eguipment when they only need 230.
This would also allow us to create assault/shock/elite divisions, in addition to priotising them with newest stuff. Regular infantry could have newest tanks but they still would not have extra machine guns or panzerfausts to support them, becouse they are not "elite".

This would be unrealistic as one of the first things any combat Soldier does is dump excess equipment. This is the purpose of supply depots -- so the Soldiers don't have to carry it themselves.

You forget that things like MG 34s weigh 27lb (12kg) -- combined with other equipment it quickly becomes too much to carry.

I would assume that the equipment required already includes division level supply dumps.

It might however, be an interesting mechanic to be able to oversupply your troops, if nothing else it might save their lives when and if your supply lines get cut.

Its called supplies. A German MG team didnt care an spare mg-42 with them, since that thing easiely weights 12kg with all the stuff going with it. If the fighting groups are cut off from the logistics company they are still cut off from supply, no matter if there are 10 spare mg-42 for them in a truck somewhere.

It should be noted that supply doesnt instantly cut off, but rather declines. Its not an on or off state. Besides that your troops will slowly starting to suffer from attrition if they are completly out of supply.

A good feature idea for a DLC or patch. This, and the ability to build supply dumps, would make the game really interesting.

This would be unrealistic as one of the first things any combat Soldier does is dump excess equipment. This is the purpose of supply depots -- so the Soldiers don't have to carry it themselves.
HOI4 takes place on a divisional level. No one is suggesting giving a single soldier three backpacks, two sets of boots and four rifles. I think supply depots are exactly what the OP is talking about.

You forget that things like MG 34s weigh 27lb (12kg) -- combined with other equipment it quickly becomes too much to carry.
You forget we're not talking about X-Com UFO Defense.
Then again, even in X-Com you could take along extra supply and just leave it lying on the floor of the Skyranger.

I would assume that the equipment required already includes division level supply dumps.
Yes. He/she is wondering if those supply dumps could be given more supply, vehicles, guns, and what have you than the division strictly speaking needs.

It would be possible too mod in a second kind of infantry with more equipment and better stats that you could upgrade to

That's a great idea. Something for a Black ICE-ish mod, I guess.

I like this idea!

It sounds just like Volksgrenadiers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volksgrenadier

The Volksgrenadier divisions met this need by using only six line infantry battalions instead of the normal nine for infantry divisions — already a common reality for many existing divisions. The units also had a higher proportion of submachineguns and light automatic weapons and thus relied more on short-range firepower than in standard German Army infantry units. Automatic weapons like the new "wonder weapon"Sturmgewehr 44 and anti-tank weaponry like the single shot panzerfaust were also used by Volksgrenadier units.

I recall exactly how much the M240B weighs, though. And how much all of my other equipment weighed:

I think its a great idea and i think it would be realistic aswell elite troops got more equiptment than recruits if you plan to make your own "Ranger" or "Waffen **" divisions you should be able to give them more stuff - i mean the standart issue rifle in the whermacht was the Kar 98 overequiping could mean they get more STG 44, Panzerfausts, MG 42s ofc 2per but instead of a simple Kar 98

In the game scale it would mean more equiptment gives you a combat bonus
