So, I popped into the game, after a few months. Count in the duchy of Savoie, latest bookmark. And it seems to me that without Conclave I can't change my succession to some types, which is super!

From the wiki:
With the Conclave DLC activated, some succession laws require a certain type of administration in order to be adopted. In particular, primogeniture and ultimogeniture require at least "Late Feudal Administration".

Primogeniture: Not Muslim nor unreformed pagan. High Crown Authority (without Conclave) or Late Feudal Administration (with Conclave)

And yet, there's no Crown Authority to be changed in my duchy. And no other independent duchy that I bother to check in that bookmark. So they are all stuck in gavelkind.

Wouldn't it be grand, if the game worked? It feels like inheritance is an important part of the game about inheriting stuff.

CROWN law.........your a duchy not a kingdom

Edit: and you can change to any succession laws at duchy level so crown law doesn't even matter, as long as the de Jure kingdom doesn't exist so that might be your problem the title exists and the crown laws aren't at high.

You do realize this is extremely not obvious? The game telling me that I don't meet the pre-requisites for a certain law, that I can actually pass?

Why the lines with feudal administration even in vanilla ck2? Why is there anything about councils?

I'm pretty sure that until I got Legacy of Rome I didn't even know about the existence of retinues - there was nothing in the vanilla game about them and there was no retinue screen.
I didn't know about borrowing money from the Jews before I got the DLC. By the current logic there would be a greyed out decision telling me that I could borrow, but I'd actually need a DLC. Why couldn't it work like that with Conclave?

And looking at this screen:

I don't think "ok, to pass to law I need to govern for 5 more years" which now I see is actually the case. I think: "well, this tooltip is weird. One of the following isn't true, so why is it green instead of red?" - here comes into play the fact that I have already played 200 hours and I know that * is the opposite of X which also is not very obvious - "but I can't change my feudal administration type... I guess I'm locked in gavelkind."
