Can I activate my game on steam somehow?

So I have EU3 and I wanted to play with my friends through steam, but original cd-key is not valid on steam. Can I activate the game there in any other way>

If you didn't buy a Steam version then no there is not, I'm afraid.

I don't think steam has matchmaking for EU3 anyway, just use the multiplayer direct connect instead. That way you won't be DC'd when steam goes off for maintenance.
