What I mean by that is whether your people can depose a military dictatorship in favor of a democracy, for example.

Also is there an option to change ruler titles? Let's say from Grand Marshal to Grand General, or anything else, depending on the circumstances.

Yeah, there is an option to reform your government and I'm pretty sure it would change with a successful rebellion as well.

I hope you can do it via war too. In the peace make an enemy into a republic or something more in line with your galactic view.

So they have mentioned that civil wars can start if certain pops of your civilization hold different ethical viewpoints compared to your empire; does anyone know what happens if they win? Like do you lose, or do you get to play as them from that point forward (presumably with a different government type)? Apologies if this is obvious, this will be my first Paradox game and I don't know a lot about how they work.

In most dox games if rebs win they get the demands they press.

I did read that empires could splinter so maybe there is an independence peace deal. I would like to see a little less binary in stellaris than say eu4 regarding rebellions

There was a button to change government type for a bunch of Influence. I don't think it's been removed.
It was in at least one of this week's videos.

There is a definite downside to it, especially early on- your pops all have preferences, and starting out, at least, they're pretty on point to your current system. So they're not going to be happy with a radical change. Once you have multiple sub sectors and alien pops that drift and diverge from your core systems' preferences, it might be more appropriate. Almost more like the reformation in EU IV.

There's the possibility for revolutions, based on the ethics of the pops that inhabit your planets. I think it'll be similar to Vic2, as in, if you have enough % of your pops with a certain ideology, you'll unlock an option to change govnerment types.

Depends really. In eu 4 it can be troubles like heretics causing decentralisation or it can be a change of government. Also you can get nationalists and patriots that want to leave you and become independent or rejoin another nation.

In ck2 it is things like ruler change, law change, silly crazy ideas like treating the poor better.

As for stellar is I would imagine the sectors will need management and if they drift too far from your own ideals they will press issues or seek independence. Also xenos scum looking for better deals, unhappy with your gentle leadership.

I sort of hope that factions can work together against you if their goals are similar.

They've mentions sector governments splitting off if they get too much of an impetuous for independence. I suspect conquered aliens will try to split off and reform or rejoin their former empire.
