I always kinda thought that it was odd that whenever you take over a province with a fort, that the damaged fort would be repaired back to whatever it was, even Level 10 forts o_O

I'm not actually sure if that was even a thing in the war. I don't recall an attacker ever rebuilding a fort after capturing it, probably because it requires a lot of manpower and resources to repair, which those resources could be used elsewhere. Besides why would they repair the forts when they (i.e. The Allies) were on the Offensive.

I think what should happen, instead of automatically-repairing forts is that the forts lose a certain amount of fort levels (i.e. A level 5 Fort being reduced to level 1-3 Fort) and you could only get recover the lost levels by manually repairing it or building additional forts levels.

In HOI3, it becomes pretty annoying when say, you're Germany, you have taken over a province containing the Maginot line after a costly battle, reduced the Fort Level 10 to 0, then pushed back, and then the French automatically is repairing a fort that was UTTERLY destroyed back to its original state :p

Thoughts?

So is the repairing manual? Or automatic which drains your resources against your will? :p

Hope it's the former. Destroyed fortifications should remain damaged/destroyed unless you choose to spend resources (and manpower) repairing the defenses.

They will be automaticly queued up at the bottom of the construction list, same as every other damaged/destroyed improvement. You can however simply move them down to the bottom of the list, where they will only use stuff if the previous one is fully satisfied. You cant stop the repair completly tho, but that would actually be wasting time, since your factories would idle if you told them to not repair.

It should be noted that it doesnt take resources or manpower to repair stuff, but rather time due to the production cost. That of course means that your civilian factories would be busy repairing stuff rather than building new stuff, but again you can set priorities.

Bottom of the list means "only if the IC would be wasted otherwise"... So it's pretty impossible to actually suffer from the cost unless you manually override the priorities or neglect all other construction projects.

correct. It will, just as production lines only use stuff (factories and for production lines resources aswell) if the previous one does have everything it needs.
