Right, yes, I've been doing that. But now I have a better idea of how it all fits together.you can hover over every mission in the tree and get a tooltip about it

Thanks, yes, I get that now. Lot of work still to be done!Generally speaking, the game leaves nation formations in the hands of the players. Some get help - like Poland getting its union over Lithuania to help it form the Commonwealth - but most have to do it the hard way; conquer the required provinces.
um, have you done the tutorial? not that it's that fantastic but it'll show you around the interfaceThanks, yes, I get that now. Lot of work still to be done!
Yes, I have, and I've gone over some chapters 2 or 3 times to get it clear. It can't cover everything though; and some things it may have mentioned but I've forgotten! I also have the manual, and I do need to study that in more detail.um, have you done the tutorial? not that it's that fantastic but it'll show you around the interface
just look at the wikiYes, I have, and I've gone over some chapters 2 or 3 times to get it clear. It can't cover everything though; and some things it may have mentioned but I've forgotten! I also have the manual, and I do need to study that in more detail.
Thanks for that link—looks like there's a lot of very useful stuff there. Wish I'd found it sooner!
Yes, I realise my mistake now! I've seen that comment in a number of places, including the Beginners' section in the wiki. I'll see this game through until I get swallowed up by some neighbourhood bully; but it's great to know that when I have enough experience my humble Utrecht could become a world power! Not entirely related, but the best advice I can give to a new player is starting with big, strong nations and then scaling down bit by bit. As someone who's done Holland -> Netherlands quite a bunch of times, including my first few runs, it's much more fruitful to play minor nations when you have more experience. I remember my first few runs I'd only expand a couple provinces within the first century, but now I can become a great power and the richest nation within that time.
