Can colonies separate peace now?

At war with Muisca after I declared war. My colonial Colombia which I hope to expand gets occupied by Muisca while I siege down Bogota. Suddenly my little Colombia subject sues for peace separately, loosing most of their land.

I can't remember seeing this happen before, so is this a bug?

They shouldn't be able to peace out separately if they were involved in a war that the mother nation declared, so if this is what happened it's likely a bug.
They could however have been involved in a colonial war that was declared on them or that they themselves declared against Muisica. In this case they do get to make their own peacedeal.

Are you also sure that your colony wasn't at war with them already? If they were, they wouldn't be called in to your war, despite the war declaration screen stating otherwise.

This is not a bug.
Colonial nations are allowed to declare wars and make peace separate if the enemy war leader has his capital in America

This also is applied if you declare the war

There is something weird with colonial Colombia though. As Inca, I was able to ally New Grenada without them having any liberty desire, while someone like Colonial Brazil was only possible to "support independence", and not directly ally..
