Cool! I'm new to the HOI games. Can you elect real life leaders like Oswald Mosley or Chamberlain?
There are elections ingame and leaders can change and/or even die from events for example. Changing the ideology will have different leaders aswell of course. You also build your own cabinet of advisors that give bonuses in certain areas, like better industria production, a daily political power (the currency for such actions) increase or even bonuses to your troops etc.

You also decide which company (unique for the majors, generic for the minors as seen below) leads the design of newly researched equipment. They permanently change the stats of affected equipment uppon research if they are active. Germany for example has Henschel, Porsche and M.A.N as tank designers, which will tailor the stats of the newly researched equipment in a certain direction. Henschel for example has good and fast tanks with good anti-tank guns. Porsche has alot of armor but is unrelieable and M.A.N is good for soft attack. You can swap them out whenever you want tho, so you can basicly have Porsche PzII, Henschel PzIII, M.A.N PzIV and so on.

So that's basically... No?

UK starts in a faction with Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and British Raj. Only the Raj is a puppet. The chances of the Commonwealth countries all surrendering and UK not surrendering seem pretty remote. Especially as joining the Axis means that the Allies must not already be in a war with the Axis, so it's the Comintern or non-aligned countries that would have to be invading the Commonwealth.

Aye however don't forget the focus trees, I think they can force ideological change. Also there are events where King Edward doesn't abdicate, and turns Britain Fascist I believe

Is this already known in HOI4? Because i just checked HOI3 and (besides France which isn't in the Allies in HOI4 from the beginning?) Britain starts alone with its puppets?

It is definitely possible to switch to Fascism as Britain, which can lead to some fun stuff happening in your country.

As for foreign policy, faction members are generally none too pleased when their faction leader changes ideology, so it might not be that hard to dismantle a faction once you've gotten going on your journey to a new political extreme.

Oswald Mosley
I recall a developer stating Mosley could take control of the country, and pictures of Fascist UK with Edward on the throne. I'd suspect Chamberlain is a possible democratic leader.

Something I guess not everyone realizes is that you can leave your faction, and will probably have to leave the Allies to become fascist as UK*. The Commonwealth will probably dislike you too, though it would neat if fascist UK gave a modifier to the Commonwealth making it easier for them to go fascist.
I'm definitely going to play a fascist UK game, it looks like the British Empire will be a lot more manageable and fun than HoI3.

*Edit: seems like you don't *have* to, but it will be very probable.

When you're here, I want to ask. Can the player switch ideology with all the major countries ? Because the German tree and the Soviet tree in the dev diaries don't seem to allow it. They have been changed, or it's by event (but the tree stay good, whatever the ideology of the country ?) or some countries can't change their ideology ?

Any country can change ideology, it's just that some will be harder than others. For example, it shouldn't be easy to turn the United States communist, or the Soviet Union fascist. But with enough time and effort, it should be possible. Be careful, though. When turning a country like USA or USSR to another ideology, chances are you'll find yourself engaged in a civil war.

You're going to have to put in some political effort to switch your ideology, as you need to build support for that ideology. That said, if you're willing to go for it you can change the ideology of pretty much any country you play. When it comes to the focus tree they are definitely designed with a certain ideology in mind, and certain branches of it may be blocked depending on your ideology.
Most, if not all of it will still be open to you, though.

When turning a country like USA or USSR to another ideology, chances are you'll find yourself engaged in a civil war.

Oh yeah, that's right. If you work to upset the internal political balance in a country when the world is on the brink of the largest conflict in human history, chances are people in your country will have a bit of an argument. Maybe even throw a few punches/hand grenades.

Faction Members can leave the faction (but you cant kick them) as far as i know. If you change ideology the other members surely will not be pleased about it and maybe leave.

It's not so far-fetched either! Historically part of the country could have broken off and been puppetted by Germany. There is also photographic evidence of SNP leader Arthur Donaldson meeting with Nazi officials and youths, and supposedly prominant members of the SNP at that time were caught by MI5 with stockpiles of German weaponry preparing for some fascist uprising which lead to arrests and imprisonment.

http://www.scotsman.com/news/mi5-file-links-former-snp-leader-to-nazi-plan-1-1103305

For the sake of British nationality unity during the war and aftermath; details surrounding this plot were not fully disclosed by MI5 until 2001 (even at that, there is still little information). But I believe historically this is the closest Britain got to a fascist uprising.
