Can anyone make a mod so that potato-rigs can run Battletech?

The title says it all really!
I'd love to buy and play this game but, sadly my potato is very outdated because it's from 2009 and is 60% lower than the minimum requirements to run it. From what I've seen in this video, would it be possible to make a mod that lowers the settings to make it playable? While the videos shown are purely comical, it opens doors to the more outdated computers and people who live on a budget.

There are some threads in the main section where people have been getting it to run (on lowest settings) on I3 laptops with 4gb RAM and intel integrated graphics. You might be surprised if you give it a try...

Haven't seen the results (obviously the graphics will be at their most basic and it's apparently very slow) but you could ask one of the posters in these threads
