Concerning the AI and 'Fortress Europe'
1939, playing as Germany. I've Austria and split the Czechs up with Hungry, the Landline between me and the French are lvl 4 forts, the 5 landing zones on the ocean are level 4 coastal forts.
I'm already at war with the Poles, have taken the entire line to warsaw, took a 3 month break to regroup, resupply, and reman (lots of manpower drains), Russia DoWs me. No sweat I think, since I'm still not through the Polish border, and i've got my nice level 4 coastal forts
Until the Sovs land over 100 divisions on Rostok, take it, and blitz all the way down to the french lines and yugoslavia (Rommal and Mannstein down there moping up Bulgaria for the seaport) turn tail and manage to re-open a line from Berlin to Warsaw (now that my main forces are back in supply...) I finally manage to kick the Sovs out of Germany (1940, December), and here come the Americans with over 400 Divisions on Rostok (where I have 9 divisions of Maus tanks (3 Eng 3 Art 3 AT)) sitting on my level 1 (grrr) coastal fortress ... and they get rolled (though I did manage to almost break the beach head)
This time though, I had reserves and was able to keep a portion of my country intact this time, though I've lost everything west of Berlin (it's now 1942).
The AI will hit your forts, and hit it with a vengence now. No more 3 infantry divisions sitting around smoking for me, time to start placing MechInf Brigaded on my 'weak' points.
The worst thing about it is though, I also managed to loose all of southwest Yugoslavia to the Aussies, and southeast Yugoslavia and all of Bulgaria to the Russians.
This is definatly not the cakewalk I expected it to be, as this is the first real game i've set down to play since I finished going through the leader files.
