So here's the thing - I'm about to press the claim to the Kingdom of Burgandy and incorporate it into my Empire. The claimant is unlanded so I'll give him a barony. But I'm also going to excommunicate him. The plan is that once he becomes King I'll be able to revoke his title without tyranny because he's excommunicated. Note that because Kings form their own autocephalous churches, and I can't excommunicate a ruler under a different autocephalous bishop, I need to excommunicate him before he becomes king. What concerns me is if he promptly lifts his own excommunication after he becomes King.

So here's the questions:

Can AI Kings lift their own excommunication?

A player would be able to do it, so I think even the Ai can. But you can simple revoke it on day 1 he is made king and since the lift excommunication need some day to be affected he by that date would be already in revolt or in your prison. And Tyranny is calculated at moment you take the decision, so if he excommunicated also if the excommunication will be left some day before he replies to you you should be pretty safe.
