Newbie question but I've got to ask it.

I'd like to build an AI controlled strategic bombing force that operates out of England and attacks Germany. It would consist of strategic bombers and escort fighter units and no land units. The major HQ would be at the Army HQ level. Corps level HQ's under the army level HQ would have within them the bombers and fighters. Objectives would be set inside Germany with stance set to Air Offensive.

Is this possible? If so how would one set something like this up? If it could be set up using the HOI3 command structure would the AI attack the infrastructure and IC's in Germany?

Thinking outside the box here and wondering out loud.

I asked a similar question a few days back. What you need to do is create a separate theatre for air units and put it on AI control then attach all units you want to be participating. Strategic bombers will attack IC provinces so that is nothing to worry about.

Edit: To create a separate theatre; detach one of your army groups from your current theatre and create a new higher command. Then reattach army group to old theatre.

You can attach air divs to land based HQs, which is a good idea to do actually. Attach them to your nearest Army Group (AG leader gives the most bonuses to those units attached below it in the heirarchy) and make sure he has high skill (and log wizard ability if possible, but high skill is more important), and it will reduce the supply and fuel your planes use--which of course, translates into less IC in supply and less supply/fuel usage on a front.

Possibly. I never use the AI for HQ control, just for other bonuses and organization in general.

An army group HQ has a range of 600KM for assisting other units. I imagine that an AI controlled AG would probably keep operations limited in that range, but its hard to say.

From what I recall, you should be able to set objectives and select areas that you want an AI controlled HQ to operate, and that should apply to air units as well. You can also set stances for Air, land, and Naval. Just keep in mind you don't want them rebasing out of that 600KM, or you'll need to move the AG HQ or attach them to another one close by.

Range isn't that big a problem if you're using daytime flights, since the planes will be on the ground at midnight when the game runs its supply routines.

Logistics Wizard is the only land leader trait that passes on to the planes, if the claims are correct.

Army Groups should work. In SF/ICE that's what I did: Create 4 AGs (Luftwaffe I through IV) and attach them to a new Theater (OKL). I did a test once with German strat bombers. Once automated, those things began turning the Maginot Line to rubble. They would cross the Channel and strat bomb UK. Just don't be surprised if the AI sends them to rebase in Newfoundland or someplace :)
