Just a quick question. Is it possible to mod a duchy into not belonging de jure to any kingdom? And furthermore is it possible to mod the same for a kingdom?

The reason for asking is, if I want to create a blank start, is it possible to also mod it so that there are no de jure kingdoms and empires as well, or do duchies still need to de jure belong to a kingdom?

Duchies without kingdom lead the game to crash, so no, it's not possible. But kingdoms without empire are possible.

Ok, thanks.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure in the past I've modded landed duchies without de-jure liege and on recent mod I made there are unladed duchy-tier title without de-jure or de-facto lieges.

There is a mod in the workshop called No Kingoms/Empires. It gets rid of dejure kingdoms and empires...
There is also a version of it that works with shattered world, which is maybe worth checking out. Not exactly the same thing, but maybe close to what you're trying for.

I believe the crash problem is with horselords. They need an empire level title but barring one of them getting your duchy the game will go fine. If a nomad takes your duchy when it tries to make empire title to be a horse lord the game will crash. This may have been resolved but I don't think so.

I'm sure it is possible. I recently had this glitch (I think it was a glitch) in CK2+ recently where the duchy of Albania (which exists in CK2+, not sure if it exists in vanilla) became part of a de jure kingdom of Albania, then somehow Albania became titular and the duchy of Albania became part of the de jure kingdom of ---. Yet the game went on and didn't crash any more than before, Serbia (which owned it at the time) even started drifting it into its kingdom with no issues.
