Trying an alternative naval strategy for Germany (1933, WiF2).

Germany cannot build fleet carriers in 1934, but can build CVL-1s (and convert TPs). I should have 5 CVLs with up-to-date CAGs long before war breaks out. I'm very curious as to how they will stand up to Britain's 3 CV-2s.

Are they destined for the seafloor?

Down to range and your positioning, you better rush those Carrier doctrine techs.

Range doesn´t matter as the firing range is the same. Bigger numbers and better doctrines, however, are important. Not sure about positioning; carrier doctrines improve CV and CVL positioning alike.

5 CVL vs. 3 CVs isn't exactly a clear advantage. CLVs are cheap, no? What about 8-10 CVLs?

I've tried that strategy and it works, but 5 isn't enough. You'll also need to convert your old BBs to CVs as soon as you can,
plus enact plan Z (to get the half finished ships), and convert everything you get from plan Z to CV /CVLs

You should end up with 10+ CVL if i recall) and 4-5 CVs. Then you can have the pleasure of invading Britain without exploits :)

I started 3 more builds, so there should be 8 CVLs, minimum, long before 1940. Looks like I will have RADAR for all of these in addition to AA and LCAGs. Will attempt to get 1937 CAG researched in time to upgrade, should be no problem.

Building Scharnhorst and Gneisenau so the fleet has some guns too.

Also plan to convert the old BB training ship to CV when the option becomes available. I'm at mid-1936 right now so CVs and BBs are not yet available for Germany to build. I assume 1938 is the magic year when an event will activate those unit types.
