Slightly off topic, but how awesome would it be if they made a datadisk to HoI III with a 1914 start?

Realistically, that ought to be a separate game due to the fact you'd have to double the tech tree backwards in order to accomodate old late Victorian and Edwardian technology.

However, they should have just gone with the ideal timeframe: 1933 - 1953. :D

Don't worry there is still time for expansions;).

I think the 36 and 44 campaigns are fine, though I pretty much just play 36. I'd play USA as 39 if I ever bothered. But I will take my money and buy a 1911 version of the game if they ever do it.

Anything to water the money tree. ;)

I'd love a '45 campaign myself - sort of like the Doomsday one but before the ahistorical war with the USSR. Germany should be on her knees, but it's the rush to Berlin and then of course finishing off Japan (no nukes have been dropped yet, so Operation Downfall is still a possibility) and deciding what to do about the Soviets. Do they continue to help? Do they invade the Allies? Do the Allies invade them?

Plus different administrations in both the UK and the US by this point (Attlee & Truman) should make for an interesting game.

I'd love that scenario (and/or an Operation Unthinkable battlescenario - man that would be awesome)

Yes I would likewise want something like that, I would somehow force Labour to lose the 45 election and then send Churchill on Unthinkable before he starts having health issues.

What!?

How dare you! '45 - '51 was our greatest ever government. :D

Anyway...

I'd love to invade Japan as Britain (without US help) whilst they're off fighting in Europe or something. Using India as a base, and maybe Singapore if I recapture it... imagine the logistics involved. :eek:o

I never understood why Paradox didnt include 42 and 43 campaigns, IMO they were more interesting than 38 campaign. Especially 43 is important if you want to play Germany, 44 is too late IMO.

For what it's worth, I'd definitely prefer a '45 scenario to a '38. :eek:o

Yeah, a "Beginning of the Cold war" will be more than great.
It doesn't matter if it will start with the Rush for Berlin and Tokyo, or just after the war's end.

'45 is far too late IMO.

Personally, I think the most interesting thing will be to launch the '43 campaign as the Japanese...you're post-Midway, but you've still got some assets left, and the potential to still wipe the floor with the Chinese. Do you go on the attack in China? Do you attempt to rebuild the IJN, aiming to seek revenge for Midway? What of the Burmese campaign?

I'm not sure about a scenario beginning after the end of the War, to be honest. I mean that would suggest an alt. history which would run off past the game's timeline, and into - as you say - the Cold War era, which is either a different game, or at the very least an expansion.

However, starting whilst Germany still has a few weeks or months to survive means that the conclusion of the war in Japan is still open-ended, whilst the Soviet Union is free to decide what to do in Eastern and Central Europe.

I think March or April '45 would be an ideal start.

NOOOO I would have too kill off Attlee, Morrison, Bevan and there fellow Labour subordinates in order to stop the NHS from forming and the Empire from being given Independance.

I would pay double for each expanison $ if they made a 1900 - 1934 and 1948 - 1960.
It should be possible to make a plausible game 1900 - 1960
I would pay my whole monthly payout for such game! :D

Oh yes a scenario including the two world wars would be sooo great...

And the period post war, possibilities:
- cold war with soviet
- cold war with nazis
- triple cold war ;)

All in one:
- fatherland
- no wwI
- kaiserreich
all should be possible - if the political/diplomatic system would be enough plausible

but also the most probable should be the situation that occured IRL - I would love such game

The point while playing in earlier period is the possibility to have an another world:

- play the revolution in Russia in 1917 ( perhaps the tsar can continue to rule the country...)
- decide of the way the Versailles Treaty should be done (If the conditions are not that hard, perhaps the 2WW does not occurs or in an another way.
- the Ottoman empire that survicve after 1920...
- etc... etc...

IMO we should not go to far in cold war period, because nuclear war is not really """"fun""". You let a nuke fall on a province and all armies are destroyed... it is more tactical with panzer and horses :)

Nukes are for fear but when both sides have them they will be used only in the last faze of war IMO (not neccessarily though ;)) maybe even not used due to that fear or used when country falls - is beaten badly and looses.

EDIT:
IMHO war between Warsaw Pact and NATO would be conventional till the allies break into Soviet territory - nukes used as last way of defence - who would like to start nuklear holocaust from the beginning? Though maybe Im wrong.
