There's also this Twitter post, which reinforces the names "Dekker" and "Medusa", but potentially shows a shift in the other two starter's names since the beta to Glitch and Behemoth. This off topic twitter post is very much subject to interpretation, though.

The Argo was so far only described in a Development Update by Harebrained Schemes LLC for their BattleTech (Video Game) Kickstarter project. This source does not meet the current criteria for Canon, and is thus treated as apocryphal at this time.

Incumbent Line Developer Randall N. Bills explicitly stated that it was the intention for this particular game's storyline to be fully canonical. That means that if and when the finished game is released, any information it contains about the Argo will likely be declared canonical.

So yes, the Argo looks like it will become canon. And since it is such a unique and prototype dropship, it won't make much effect on the Battletech universe. There are probably thousands of vehicles/vessels/mechs that fit into being prototypes but never moved into being anything but a test bed. They found the negatives of their designs was just too much for the positives to override.

So you are saying we get a crappy dropship that was so bad nobody else wanted it? :p

Nah, it was so awesome, that the Houses were simply not able to build it anymore after their quarrels started. So we get a totally OP part of technology. I feel like a special snowflake. :D

In the February Q&A Mike said that the starting lance is fixed, but will change quickly after you start.

Am I the only one that feels a bit of impending doom with the "...will change quickly after you start" portion of that statement?

Well, see that green Blackjack with the missing arm on the previous page? That's how our 'Mechs are going to look half of the time :)

I'm guessing we're going to have a third to half our 'Mechs in a state of disrepair at any given time; That Mr. Virtanen is going to be a busy man :)

First thing I do in the campaign is find a bunch of junk riding pierats and mission farm them for weapons. Then I will go looking for better opfors to salvage mechs off of. :). Then I conquer the galaxy!

Have you read how the BT universe treats mercenaries?

I'll be happy to have a semi-profitable, self sustaining unit that makes it through the story campaign intact.

It irritates me to the absolute core of my being that we have to start with an urbanturd. Hopefully there will be a ‘Mech dealer on the planet we start off on, so I can sell it right off. If not, I will just leave it behind the DropShip before I take off on the first mission.

Not that it'd be fun or at all in the scope of the game, but from an in-universe perspective, I can't help but wonder if it'd be smarter, saner, safer, and more profitable to sell our mechs for startup capital and just operate the Argo and its 57,000 tons of cargo capacity as a cargo ship like its a slightly nerfed Behemoth and try to become a merchant prince(ss).

The works right up to the point where a guy with a Lance of BattleMechs and General Support Aerospace Fighters takes down your Leopard Dropship while it is dirtside, and ride it right back up to your ARGO...

...which now that I think on it, might be just how @HBS_TheBaron indends for us to gain the ARGO in the first place!!! : ) lol

Eh, I doubt Behemoths get hijacked that often. Plus the Argo is a Spruce Goose, a failed curiosity. Also unique and thus tracked and traced a lot easier than a Behemoth or other generic dropship. Who would WANT to steal it when they could steal a Behemoth instead.
