Ok, I'm coming back to the game after a long layoff and frankly even then I was a bit of a noob. Just played a lot with Ireland...

So in this game as Pecs I got involved in a war in Hungary. Some faction had formed and fought against the Kingdom of Hungary. The rebel faction called me to arms...

So first off, I wasn't really sure if I had to or not since I wasn't part of the faction but they appeared to be winning so I joined in. Can a faction call pretty much anyone to arms if they're a rebel?

Secondly, how do you tell which armies are on which side?? There generally appeared to be blue and red armies fighting and I can't recall, but I don't think my army was blue or red when I raised my levy's. So I wasn't really sure where to go or what to do when I raised them.

Do I need to do anything to 'satisfy' my liege which called me? Or just raising them is enough?

I ended up joining in the attack on the neighboring province and then just went back home and disbanded my levies...

Finally, the war score display icon is confusing... Is the icon displaying the ruler who declared war? And the score is only their progress toward victory? So 0 or a low war score and they're losing? Or can it go negative? and they're really losing?

If I fight a lot can I win territory? I assume given the war declaration system, I can't really gain anything but their appreciation and that I gain nothing more fighting longer vs just raising vassals and fighting perfunctorily...

Anyway, clarification would be great!

Thanks,

Javaslinger

more accurately, you were probably allied with the faction leader. and during that war, the faction leader was temporarily considered independent and thus can call you to arms
as for armies, green armies are those under your direct command, blue are those allied to your cause in a war, red are enemies, and grey are neutrals (ie. your vassals fighting each other, the army raised by your liege, or other realms you have no quarrel with)
as for fighting in allied wars, you only gain prestige and piety (against infidels/heretics?), but it's also a good chance to upgrade your ruler's martial stats/education (of course there is obviously the risk of dying as well anyway).
as for the war score, there are two ways of understanding it:
the warscore shown in the circles on the lower right are basically positive means you're winning and negative means you're losing
for warscore shown in the icons of other realms, positive means the attacker is winning and negative means the defender is winning (viewing either the aggressor's or defender's screens doesn't change this

So many questions...

So first off, I wasn't really sure if I had to or not since I wasn't part of the faction but they appeared to be winning so I joined in. Can a faction call pretty much anyone to arms if they're a rebel?

A rebelling vassal can call other vassals to war if it is to depose or install a new ruler. You can not however call fellow vassals to war over independance.

Secondly, how do you tell which armies are on which side??

Green is you, Blue is allies, Red if Hostile and grey is neutral.

Do I need to do anything to 'satisfy' my liege which called me? Or just raising them is enough?

Your liege can not call you to arms, but the rebel faction can. You do not have to do anything in a war if you don't want to, but so long as a war is running some events will not fire and there is a risk your holdings could become besieged. So the choice is yours.

Finally, the war score display icon is confusing... Is the icon displaying the ruler who declared war? And the score is only their progress toward victory? So 0 or a low war score and they're losing? Or can it go negative? and they're really losing?

If you click the war icon on the bottom right, it will show you who is at war with who. The percentages under each rulers portrait is their contribution to the war effort. The high the percentage, the higher the prestige when a war is won. The middle percentages represent how the war effort is going, 100% in the green is you've won and 100% in the red is a you've lost.

You can not gain any land from joining another vassals war.

Ok, so the warscore in the circle is from my perspective regardless of whether I'm doing any fighting.. ie. if my liege is losing, it will be red... If my liege is winning it will be green? correct?

When my liege raised troops from my county, does that impact what is available to me to raise? It doesn't seem like it impacted what I can raise, but maybe what I can get from my vassals?

Thansks!

The warscore is from the perspective of your side of the war. If you did not join the rebels then it will be how well your liege is doing. If you did join the rebels, then it's how well the rebel leader is doing.

When my liege raised troops from my county, does that impact what is available to me to raise? It doesn't seem like it impacted what I can raise, but maybe what I can get from my vassals?
Your liege raising your troops will reduce the size of the army you can raise yourself. How much depends on the realm laws, the crown authority and how much the game perceives your character as liking your liege.
