"caliphate strikes back" achievement not triggering

As per title says. I really have done what's required from the achievement by the book.
I've recently read that even if you play a minute offline, it may mess the ironman save. Is there any truth to that?
If so, I'm totally screwed:/

An additional question: Would keeping a hard copy help? Such as getting a copying the save to another file manually, and replace the current file with the latest one when I'm in doubt of a corruption.

It's not really something fundamental to Steam. I think Paradox chose to implement it that way to prevent cheating which seems a bit excessive to me. At the very least the game ought to detect if you go offline and give you an option to either wait for a connection to be reestablished or quit without compromising the save.

They should have implemented the achievements INSIDE the game itself, like in Mass Effect (sorry, can't think of any other more similar game). So, no need to depend on an external factor, like Steamworks or internet connection.

Umm like every game ever???!!! (Except pdox games as they tend to hastily add them months later)

This is such a wonderful idea.

I think the difference is that EU4 by default does Ironman saves to the cloud, whereas CK2 does ironman saves by default to disk.

For the record, no idea if it will deal with this issue and work for what CerealGuns suggested... but in the Options, under the game tab, there is a 'Autosave to Cloud' option. Perhaps it makes the game save autosaves the way EU4 does it...

I'll try that later today. I happen to have a bad connection (with EUIV anyway) so I might be able to see the popup message demanding that I reconnect to the internet.

Okay, was just playing a game via cloud and it didn't save once. Told me there was an error and asked whether there was enough space or whether I was using illegal characters. Couldn't save manually either. The next month it just saved again, dunno if I am no longer able to get achievements though.

At last I can confirm that cloud saving is the way to go.
I recently started a game with Khazar to get the Jewish achievement. There were multiple occasions where I lost connection and the game kept warning me.
Finally when I was able to form Israel, I got the achievement with no problems.(Of course I was connected to the internet at the time being)

One thing that I should warn you though is: when the save is on cloud, it's OK to play the game offline, but make sure that when you are close to getting the achievement you're online.
In the Jewish game I mentioned, I got the Divine Blood achievement when I was offline. Funnily the steam achievement notification popped up. However when I eventually went online, it was NOT recorded.
