Something I'm curious about is why Calais is such a worthless province for the English. In the game it's a province with low tax value, wrong culture and no land connection. Later on it will also have the wrong religion, and it's also something that will bring England into conflict with France.

As far as I can tell it was a very valuable city for the English, and something the spent a considerable effort to defend, despite its poor natural defenses. My suggestion would be to increase the tax value to match the dutch provinces, maybe 15, and possibly also give it anglosaxon culture (arguable of course, but as far as I can tell true for the city itself, which is the important part). Later, when the French conquer it the culture would change and the tax value would be reduced.

The loss of Calais should be a disaster for the English, not a relief.

I agree with a decent tax increase, but I disagree with giving Calais anglosaxon culture.

I also think anglosaxon should be changed to english.

It won't be good for USA... They are not english, are they? ;)

For this timeframe, in terms of culture & language, I would say yes.

Anglosaxon is too specific and just doesn't seem right. English is better. :)

As much as French is. :)

Change it!
There is no other word for it. There is only one CoA for France too. :)

Seriously now, Anglosaxon means something to me, something bigger than "only" English but I could be wrong for EU2 timeframe and any name for this culture will be fine for me.

Waiting for other comments.

Phrase "Anglosaxon countries" means England, USA, Canada, Australia; it's easier to say that than list them all :) And afaik everyone knows/feels what it means.

I also think that France shouldn't get the core on Calais until 16th century, French conquered the city in 1558.

But Calais is part of the Kingdom of France. French cores are meant to represent the rightful claims of the King of France, nothing more but nothing less.

Core or not, France will always conquer Calais early, as it is just much more powerful. I know, it's been the case historically, but perhaps England is a bit too underpowered, they'll underperform almost every time. I don't know about the new map, but England could use a few more provinces...

I'd rather prefer the attitude used with Ottomans, they get cores with each new monarch, which covers their conquests. Similarly France could get cores some time before the dates of acquiring. :)

Besides, Calais should be more worthy for England as it was these days. Unfortunately it's not wise to set CoT there.

Attribution of cores for OE is different. It helps OE to perform historically.

France is a kingdom at start with known boundaries. In this case, cores represent suzerainty of the King of France. But more cores will be granted to France too, outside first boundaries with same intention as for OE.

I do think that, in order to follow an historical path, calais should be more important and better defendable for England.. How about an event to improve it´s fortress level?
