Something I'm curious about is why Calais is such a worthless province for the English. In the game it's a province with low tax value, wrong culture and no land connection. Later on it will also have the wrong religion, and it's also something that will bring England into conflict with France.
As far as I can tell it was a very valuable city for the English, and something the spent a considerable effort to defend, despite its poor natural defenses. My suggestion would be to increase the tax value to match the dutch provinces, maybe 15, and possibly also give it anglosaxon culture (arguable of course, but as far as I can tell true for the city itself, which is the important part). Later, when the French conquer it the culture would change and the tax value would be reduced.
The loss of Calais should be a disaster for the English, not a relief.
