FORESTRY

Lush trees.

Vs.

Biased picture, the actual forestry has a small backyard of trees it uses.

FARMS

Banished, fair sizes for a small community. They can get much larger too.

Farming and forests are arguable the backbone of Banished - not so with C:SL.

That said, it would be nice if those aspects were improved in C:SL - but it is hardly core gameplay for me.

every negative criticism I've found in the online review comments (rock, paper, shotgun for example), youtube videos and here in these forums have been regarding how stupid the farms, resources and airports look.. I don't understand.. why can't this be fixed?

If those are the biggest concerns/complaints of the game, then I say C:SL is doing pretty good.

SC2013's pre-release forums were literally a clustertrainwreck of complaining about city sizes and online only.

Because priorities. If we'd put resources on that there would be something else lacking instead :) So whilst we agree that nicer looking farms/airports/harbors would be a good thing it's simply not "important enough" as it stands.

About the forest in CS, does the map editor allow to put trees in massive amount to make it look like a dense forest (bit more like Banished)?
Or does it present performance issues of some kind?

Because on all the video and pictures, there are only a few of them.

Trying to compare two different games with two completely different focuses will drive you nuts. Neither are to realistic scale as neither has the maps that can allow it. Besides, CSL is a city builder, not a farm builder.

wtf is that supposed to mean?

CSL is also not a powerplant builder, it's not an airport builder, it's not an industry builder ...

just because the game isn't an "xyz-builder", doesn't mean "xyz" shouldn't be important at all in the game

There are such thing as farm communities...not everyone wants to build a big capitalistic megapololis...

I want to build a small farm community with a big international airport

People seems to forget that computer development takes time, and more importantly, *money*. Programming is *always* about balancing trade-offs. The perfect program is the one that will never be completed, and that's why no one makes it. As far as I'm concerned, CO did a brilliant job at balancing the trade-offs, much better than any other city builder since SC4. (Although - renaming pigs? Seriously? :p To be fair, though, it's hardly an hour's worth of coding that went into that)

PS.

HEY! You posted a picture of the game, and I almost missed it. I think the forum should have a flag on each topic everytime TotallyMoo posts an image - for easy reference.

Houses in different games.

First, The Sims. As you can see, houses are very detailed, you can see every room and navigate your citizens around. You can see their daily activities, who they are friends with etc.

Now C:SL. You can't even see whats inside...

I'll leave you with it but it's pretty obvious by now that The Sims>>>>> C:SL

A valid point. Also, in Skylines you don't have to worry about building tailors and gathering wool and leather, because citizens never wear out their clothes like they do in Banished. What a shallow simulation! ;)

Personally I think the farms will look OK once they remove the fences for orchards and crops. Actual tree models look fine as well, they just aren't dense enough in the current screen shots. Some more variety would be nice of course (rocks, flowers etc.) but I would like to be able to play the game this year, not some time after 2021.

What a shallow simulation the Sims is. Just look at the grass, it's just a green blob. Not nearly the amount of depth as you would expect in a game such as SimAnt:

images

Just look how the Yard came alive in that game: Actual rocks, variation and insects running arround.

you could even see what's going on *underneath* the ground!
