The MP version overwrites original files, the SP version leaves them intact (with exception of province.csv). If in doubt you can have two separate HoI installs, one with C.O.R.E. and the other without.

Sorry, but I'm not too sure how to do separate HOI installs.

It's just organisation, WeirdOne. I start with the Strategy First folder, then browse to specify my own subdirectories that will each contain a separate install of vanilla HoI. Each one of those 'custom' subdirectories are named for the Mod that will be contained there. Then, I just go ahead and let the installer install to a Hearts of Iron subfolder.

So, for C.O.R.E., my directory structure looks like:
\\Program Files\Strategy First\CORE\Hearts of Iron\...

Oh, and hallelujah! to the C.O.R.E. team for using software that allows Mod upgrades to overwrite previous versions. The prospect of uninstalling, then reinstalling upon each upgrade has become less than thrilling to me. Spoiled, aren't I?

I think I get it now. Does this mean I'll have to reinstall HOI now? That can be a real pain...

If your current installation is crashing then I would certainly recommend a complete uninstall and reinstall.

Alright, I'll follow your advice.

Let me just get the directions straight: create a sub-folder called CORE in the Stradegy First Folder. In the CORE folder, copy and paste the original Hearts of Iron folder. Save the CORE mod to that folder.

Basically, C:/Program Files/Stradegy First/CORE/Hearts of Iron

Am I correct?

Followed your advice, ArmdChair. Reinstalled it (like Steel suggested), made a separate folder, and now everything is in working order.

Thanks! :D

I have a question, do you need to make a seperate installation for mp core than sp core aswell ???

Yes. MP CORE over writes the vanilla files, and has other changes for MP game balance purposes. SP CORE uses the mod-dir function, and only the initial .bat file over writes the province.csv.

v0.83 MP additional changes
- re-applied German MP changes to INC and event file

I've never used CORE, am going to start a came with it. Two questions for now:

Am I right that v 0.83 does not work with 1.06b?

Am I right that v 0.83 has to be installed on top of v 0.8?

So, I install HOI, patch to 1.06a, install CORE v 0.8 then install version 0.83, correct?

That was three questions, sorry.

Thanks,

Chris

I did it like this:

HOI
1.06 patch
1.06b patch
CORE 0.8
CORE 0.83

That works just fine and you get 1.06b changes like the large fighter stack penalty. But maybe that isn't very well balanced for CORE so you might want to just skip the 1.06b until the next update to CORE is done.

Did it, won't work

OK, I followed those steps exactly. My install of HOI was clean, followed by patch to 1.06b. The game started fine. I then installed CORE 0.8, followed by CORE 0.83. When the game starts, and odd thing happens with the Blink Video and the Loading Event Library box, the box is super imposed over the video. I hit escape to skip the video and am taken to the startup scree no problem, though. At startup, I have a choice of two scenarios, CORE 8 36 and CORE 83 36. When I select either scenario, while the "Reading Scenario" script appears on the screen, I hear the dreaded "boink" sound and get a message saying "cannot load 'ai\minor_default.ai' with the famous three choices, abort, retry or ignore. None of the choices work, the game won't load. Did I do something wrong? Any ideas how to fix it?

Edit: I uninstalled and reinstalled and tried CORE 0.8 before putting in 0.83 and the same two things happened.

FURTHER EDIT: I got it working with the 1.06a patch, so that's ok for now.

Thanks,

Chris

I got the same problem. Then once I got to playing it, the names for naval units we're misplaced ("unkown string or something). I'll do a reinstall I suppose...

Just editing to verify that I had made a failed install :eek:o

I have never seen that error message. The superimposed box over the intro video, well... that sort of just is there, but you can get it out of sight with a click on the left mousebutton if you want to watch the video. Btw, I recommend for everyone to run the HoI settings program and change resolution of the game to max, it looks much better if you do.

How do I go that, through the preferences menu or is there a program in the HOI directory for that?

Thanks,

Chris

There's a shortcut called "HoI Settings" in your start menu under Paradox Entertainment - Hearts of Iron. You can also find it by looking in the directory where you installed HoI.

How do I install the Mac version of CORE 0.83

First thing first, thanks for the MAC version,
Q. How do I install it. I seem to have multiple copies of the same files, one in the mod-CORE folder and some outside of this.

What files go where? :)

Option for scenarios not recognised on mac running Panther!

Ok so I finally verified that all the files are now in their correct place thanks to AlanH's Mod install, nice piece of work there AlanH. However HOI on the mac refuses to see the scenario 'option' folder and refuses to work when I put "mod-CORE" in the scenarios section at start up.

I have heard that 1.06 for the mac is right arround the folder, but what gives!!!!!

It should be in the CORE Bug tread. :)

The error is already known and will be fixed in a next version.

Thanks for reporting this!
