They're not 'cruisers' per say but sloops. They fit the bill as a sloop compared to other nations sloop, such as the Spanish and Portuguese sloops. I've already sent an e-mail a week ago about the USCG being several sloops and escort sloops. They're given the designation of 'sloop' because of the way they where used (individual ships with moderate armament mean't to operate independantly)

When I hear the term Sloop I'm always prone to thinking of a bunch of dirty and grimey pirates, preying on the merchants with their small ship all over the Spanish Main. :)

When I think of sloops I think of this:

Let's try again.

The USCG operated independently before the war. However, during WW2, the primary duty of the US cutters in HOI-terms was convoy escort. So the game path of those ships was to disappear into the convoy escort pool.

There was very little difference between the Bibb/Treasury (327') class USCG cutters and the US Navy Erie class sloops, mianly because the Bibb/Treasury class was based on the Erie's design). They where huge (well for cutters) with a standard displacement of 2,216 t and a full displacement of 2,660 t 3 × 127mm, 3 × 76.2mm, 2 × 40mm, and 4 × 20mm. In game terms if they where to be destroyers they would be large destroyers or 2500 t destroyers which isn't an accurate representation of the ship's ability or an accurate comparison to other ships of that type as they often mounted heavier guns then 5'. In fact I've been talking to MateDow if we should bumb them up to treaty sloop and made the Haida class USCG the basic sloop. I'm not saying all USCG cutters where that capable, or even that displacement is the one defining factor, the Chelan, Northland, Active, and Argo class cutters are going to be put in the next patch as several flotillas of escort sloops along with the USCG patrol boats. As the war continued even larger USCG cutters where designed and built, the Northwind (270') class cutters exceeded 3,500 t and three where loaned to the Soviet Union. The Owasco (255') class, although smaller then the Bibb/Treasury class was equally as capable. We can't make every single type of ship that ever escorted a convoy to be able to put them in the game in such an abstract way, in that case the entire Regia Marina would be in the escort pool. In terms of the ship class herself in comparison and date of construction to other ships, they easily fits the role as a sloop.

Naval Combat 1.06 C.O.R.E. v8.1 SUCKS!

Ghost_dk said:
Your right that the grand admiral can command 12 ships but for every ship above 2 a commander, regardless of rank, gets a -2 stacking penalty. This was introduced with the 1.06 patch and cannot be modded. It represents the difficulties of co-ordinating combat between several ships in the heat of the battle and is quite logical IMO.

Ghost_dk

All ships had a Captain who is in charge of the daily running of his ship and following the tactics dictated by Leader of the Fleet. The Grand Admiral job from above was to come up with a battle strategy for each situation that came about while he was in command! If needed he would change his plans if the situation changed during a battle! I think the penalty is to high especially for a Grand Admiral. Control of a fleet at this time had improved quite a bit from even WWI!

You're right that the control was improved by radios and such. Only to command a fleet of 12 ships in battle you have to be aware of the overall picture and the role and position of each ship. I can imagine that this is quite difficult for a commander especially while the bombs and shells keep flying round your head. :)

And as Ghost_dk already pointed out it is something which can't be modded so nothing can be done about it. Only Paradox can change it.

When you enter the forum (CORE HOI), there is a lot of "stickies".
Read the one called "Read it FIRST". That can help. ;)

Thanks for the info. I'm just frustrated because even though I haven't gone through all 52 pages, everyone is talking about modifying this or that, but I don't see a "mod" that I can download. I thought that's what this thread was about.

No problem at all - all the threads with names like "CORE - stuffing animals" or "CORE - drinking and singing" are devoted to particular aspects of the mod. Thread with information how to use it and how download it got more generic name. ;)

Is the first one legal? Or do I need to raise my level of sight? (sewers are pretty from below)....

And the second...now THAT'S a thread....though I suggest ear plugs for every one...

Ok, thanks. Haven't been to this forum in awhile, and am still trying to figure things out.

On November 16, 1945, Marshal Pétain leaves the Fort of Portalet for l’Île d’Yeu passing by Pau and Bordeaux; at La Pallice, he embarks on an escort ship Admiral Mouchez ordered by Commander Destremau who receives him with the respect due a Marshal of France.

Thats all that I found...
