Isn't it highly irrelevant if your country ideology is positioned towards fascist/communist/democratic when it comes to DOWs?

The relevant thing is your government type and as long as it is national socialist/fascist/paternal autocrat, the ledger can be fully democratic and it won't change a thing (except make it easier to coup or to get somebody in an corresponding alliance).

You should post this inside the C.O.R.E. forum, they'll be able to help you out.

Better yet, just ask a mod to move this thread there, since it belongs there in any case, i.e. your situation could not occur in vanilla HoI.

I thought about posting there but they are very sensitive about starting new threads. I didn't see any existing threads that seemed directly relevant to my questions. In fact, people in these forums as a whole are ridiculously sensitive about what and where you post...so much so that it makes new members gun shy. Is my question that much off topic???? I mean, this is an HOI "general" forum after all, is it not?

If it ruffles any feathers less, then pretend i'm not playing CORE. My second question is still very much relevant - how does a democratic Japan change its ways?? And please don't say "..use the search.." I have done so and obviously not found any good answer. I would appreciate any insight.

in 1937 (mid to late) you have an election - elect right so you turn into paternal autocrat. You can declare war with a minor dissent hit.

As to the CORE part I would sugges that the admins do a direct link off the main page to CORE - would increase the chances that newbies know where to post. After all HOI PE is comming out and I think most/ a lot will be playing the mod - and most wont know that you have to look in the mod section.....

Japanese Puppet Regimes

I like the idea of a Philippine puppet government as the figures in the Laurel regime actually had an impact after the war. Much the same is true of Japan's Burma puppet (Aung San).

The Chinese puppet (Wang Jingwei's Nationalists in Nanjing) is a bit more problematic. None of its member had an impact after the war and the Chinese puppet regime was discussed earlier in this thread and discarded. If the Philippine and Burmese puppets are setup, why not the Chinese and Dutch East Indies (Indonesians)?

And all this would require quite a lot of work and new leaders but should have a pay back in slowing down the Japanese. Lots of the resources conquered would be absorbed by the puppet regimes stretching the Japanese further. I find it too easy for the Japanese to conquer China.

At a minimum, the puppet leaders should disappear at the appropriate times. For example, in CORE 0.84 the Nationalists can run Wang Jingwei as foreign minister as long as they want when in reality he went over to the Japanese in December/January of 1939.

There are a series of events(3 I think) to simulate the border skirmish SU and Jap had at that time - You got there by selecting aggressive options in the previous events - now that your on the brink of war you cant back down easily - it is better to back off right away rather then pick the more aggressive options and end up where you are at now...

If you dont want to be at war with the SU dont escalate the border issue- its not that hard.
You chose to be aggressive towards the SU and now your wondering why you in this situation??

Fiendix:

1. I took the proper course to become fascist and did indeed achieve it. Problem now is because of the war with SU event I am hardcore democracy now.

2. I did look in the proper place under the mod section, but as I said I was a bit gun shy on posting there. Environment seems less than friendly towards newbers. I do agree with you though that it should be placed higher up to be more easily accessable.

korny:

Noted. This is my first time playing as Japan in CORE and in hindsight it I guess I should've expected it. Thanks for the info.

Can I expect any other events to knock me back towards fascism? Will my fascist allies attempts at diplomatic influence have any affect on me? And generally can my actions, i.e. DOW on democracies, shift my goverment type in a particular direction.

I know - lots of questions - Thanks again for you help!

Nope, I guess the aggressive stance towards the SU is a one way trip to oblivion that leads to total upheaval of your government...

Luckly the first time I got those events and I was aware of the historical context and chose not to push my luck with the SU, so I backed out early(which I think is a 5% dissent hit), know that I know the consquences I guess I did the right thing...

the reason why they created a puppet republic in the philippines because they had difficulty in controlling it...they were also planning to create regiments of filipino soldiers to fight the americans...after all they believe that the filipinos were more "technically-skilled" than any southeast asians at that time...

in fact many filipinos were sent to japan to study warfare...even filipino-american war (1899-1901) hero, Artemio Ricarte, returned home from his exile in Japan to train these filipino soldiers...however, it failed because many later would joined the USAFFE (United States Armed Forces in the Far East) or the guerillas...

Hello C.O.R.E players and mods!
This is my first post in this forum I think. I´ve been playing CORE for a while for a few month ago, and tonight I returned to this exellent mod.
I have played with the japanese empire and it´s now early 1940, and I have defetead China and got that peace event. Now China is my puppet and toghter we been fighting the reds and eastern warlords... I didn´t have time to finish them off so I made peace with them.
But here´s the problem. I conquered three provinces before I made peace. And now this three provinces is small yellows dots in the middle of China.

I think an event should be created who gives nationalist china any provinces that Japan take from the other chinise countries when peace is made.

What do you all think about this?

Oh btw I play Core 0.84.

Hi, don't know if anyone has posted anything in regards to this, too many posts to go through, just wondering why Japanese AI can't seem to annex or even puppet china?. I've played Japan and managed to annex all of china by 1941, the AI seems to slice through china and then stops.

Historically the Japanese war aims in China was to enforce a peace settlement where Japanese claims in the north (Manchukuo) would be recognised by the Chinese government. Annexation was not their war aim and the AI has been programmed to follow the historical path of conquering the important coastal areas and then stop.

Thought as much. Not a real good ally in game terms though.

I don't think the nation of Japan is an active participant in this forum, so I'll reply instead.

Yes. Check the core_japan.txt file in \mod-CORE\scenarios\events\. Look for the Marco Polo Bridge Incident.

The Marco Polo Bridge incident normally triggers mid-1937. If you want an early start to the war then the 2-2-6 Incident allows you to go for an ahistorical fascist cabinet which in turn allows you to declare war on any nation in February 1936.
