byzantium's cultures in GC

I think that's the only way BYZ could get turkish culture.
Half the Anatolian penninsula is turkish so either BYZ has to integrate them through events (as in the EEP) or expel them.

Another justification could be that in the GC as they don't get any events past 1460 (if you converted in 1439) tPp (the Paradox-people) gave them the italian culture for us gamers.
And that BYZ were of Roman ancestery.
Does anyone know if they considered themselves as Romans or as Roman Greeks, or as Greek Romans...

Well Byzantium even at its end had a strong bond with some parts of Italy, Vience mainly. You could agrue why Austria has slovak, cezch, and magyer. Sure the were married into those nations but why not add the cultures during the annexation of those governments. But that would be changing the topic..

I don't think Byzantium could expel the turks even if they wanted to, cause who would tend to the sheep? Besides its not like a small group of people in a small area of your country, like in Spain. And were would they go?? All the muslim nations are getting moors( like they need more people to take care of in the desert and dat), and those mogols have horid eating habits, and certianly not the shiites....lol

Yeah, and that's why I argue that BYZ should get turkish culture over time if the gamer chooses to, and not without friction.

I know they ended up speaking greek, but do u know what kind of greek. Classical, Romanized, close to "modern" or...

For Romanian culture perhaps it should be added as a result of an event. Maybe once they gain one or more of certain Romanian cultured provences they get an event that would as one choice gain them the culture at a cost to stability -2 or -3. I don't see a real reason they should start with it though.

Byzantine Greek. But, imperial families, for example, Latinized their name upon reaching the imperial throne. For example, my grandmother's family name was originally Kantakuzinos. They swithced it to Cantacuzinus when they ruled. After fleeing to Romania, they went to a sort of middle ground Cantacuzino.

Being in the Crusades doesn't mean you're Catholic. Who asked for the crusade? The Ortodoz Byzantines. It just meant you're CHRISTIAN. At the time of the Crusades, Albania was the Despotate of Albania, which was ORTHODOX and claimed the throne of Byzantium.

That bond was just a "forced trading bond" in the final years of the Empire. Sure some Italians fought for the city in 1453, but it was their Christian duty. In the end, it didn't matter what the Council of Florence said, the Byzantines went back to their Greek rites to pray for their Empire. The Empire had long parted with their Latin counterpart.

No. While there were close relations between Byzatnium, Moldavia and Wallachia, and a lot of Byzantine families (including all of the surviving imperial ones) ended up in Romania, there was no real history of Byzantine rule over Romanians.

That is right. Byzantine boundaries only extended along the left back of the Danube. They never held Wallachia or Moldavia.

If the Turks came, they could go back. Who would tend the sheep? The Greeks. Why do you think Anatolia was the Empire's chief source of manpower? Had the Turks been beaten back, the Greek refugees would go back and resettle.
