The early and gamey method is grapping Constantinople with a few units when they are at war with Egypt. Just unload the units nearby via sea (and don't run into their navy:p) and head to Constantinople ASAP and occupy it before their reinforcements arrive. Once you've occopied the city of men's disire, the victory event triggers and you get a lot of provinces from the Ottomans including Constantinople IIRC. The empire is founded soon thereafter via event, although your pitifully weak economy belies the grand word 'empire' somewhat.;)

In the next version we have replaced the Byzantium chain with a "Realizing the Megali Idea" event. The Byzantium chain just wasn't appropriate for this time period in Greece as the main nationalist aspiration was the Megali Idea.

Which is pretty much the same as the Byzantine event, except without changing the country's name and flag, right? I mean historically the territorial ambitions of the Megali Idea included Constantinople and Smyrna, even Cyprus.

Well the old chain didn't rename Greece, just changed it's flag and allowed various other ahistoric events. But yes, pretty much the same - you can defeat the Ottomans or Turkey and have them cede you your claims, though the requirements are a lot more significant than the Byzantine formation event where you merely had to occupy Constantinople. There is, of course, an option for the Ottoman or Turkish player to refuse, but the AI will always accept (an AI Greece is never likely to get so far, so it'd be a shame for a player of Greece to get refused after all of that work).
