Pol: Mommy, Byzantium keeps poking me! Byz: Am not!

The threat of war was greater than ever. Emperor Wilhelm III and Großfuhrsten Otto II mingled among their loyal troops in the forests and hills of Slovakia, the northern district of the Dracia Principality. The troops were uplifted to see their Emperor and Patriarch to find time to hold conversation with them. Von Klugen was also delighted to see the Emperor, they had to discuss ordering new, fast, stronger tanks for the Dracian Legions. The Emperor agreed, but the tanks were still sitting on the docks over in Norfolk. Recent supply problems in South Amerika forced the container ships in Norfolk to carry relief supplies to Neuitalien (Argentina). Otto wandered around the camps and eventually found his way to the supply HQ of the 321st Regiment of the 506th Dracian Army.

**
This would be a good time to explain the Organization of the Byzantine Army: (The one above is made up of the one below)

Imperial Army (All of the armies of the Empire)

Legion

Army

Korps

Regiment

Battalion

Legionary Cohort (LC)

Cohort

Squad

Soldier

Otto watched the supply master hand out weapons to the waiting soldiers. Every soldier was handed a new sub-machine gun, 100 rounds of ammuntion, a new bayonet, a pair of socks, a pack of cigarettes, a pack of gum and a bar of chocolate. Otto eyed the new rifle with lustful eyes and got in line behind a pack of new recruits. Since he was 17, and tall for his age he fit right in with the other soldiers. The line was long, but for Otto it was worth the wait, finally he was at the head of the line.

"Name?"

"Otto"

The supply master sighed, "Full name?"

"Otto Johannes-Eugen von Navarrien Dukas II"

"LC and Cohort?" Otto was stunned that his name wasn't instantly recognized by the SM. Soldiers behind him began to get itchy, they began to realize that this was not a normal soldier.

"LC and Cohort?!" the SM asked again.

"Did you not get my name?" Otto asked quietly.

"Yes, I wrote it down right here, but before I can issue you anything you need to give me you LC and cohort!"

"But I'm the Großfursten, I'm not in the Imperial Army."

"Haha, very funny. What is your real name, LC and cohort?"

"Sir?" asked a soldier behind Otto, "He's not kidding, the Emperor and Großfursten are visting the army today." The SM froze in a mix of sheer terror, and the feeling of losing feeling in his bowels.

"How can I help you?" the SM asked kindly.

"Yeah, can I have one of those rifles and some ammuntion?"

"Sure, why not?" The SM grabbed a submachine gun, and 500 rounds of ammunition and handed them to Otto. "Just don't shoot any of the Poles across the lines, you might end up starting this war." Otto left the tent happy, all he needed now was a 80mm tank to drive around Konstantinopolis with and he'd be set. Following landmarks that were familur to him on the way there, Otto found his father and von Kluge right where he had left them. They were still chatting about the new tanks that were comming and the basing of a new bomber group near-by. Wilhelm eyed the sub-machine gun but wrote it off, he was glade deep down that in a year the boy would be 18, married off and given some estate to live in far away from his normal romping grounds in Konstantinopolis. He knew that Karl was not happy with haven been born "second." Karl would have been a better politician than Otto, but he wasn't nearly as charasmatic as Otto, nor was he likely to marry any princess brought before him. No, Wilhelm thought, Otto will be the right choice. Von Kluge's messenger boy came up to the group and handed the Emperor a small letter before bowing and running back to the message tent. Wilhelms brow raised and then settled in a scowl. He crumpled the paper up and threw in on the ground.

"I have to leave, von Kluge. Tell your men their hospitality was second only to my wife's, and that I apologise for having to leave."

"Sir, you are to apoligise to no one."

"No, I do, and you will for me, now, Otto I must go." Otto was left stunned, but happy he was alone. When his father had vanished into his aircraft, he bent down and picked up the paper and opened it. It was very brief:

"Argentina Seceeds, Peru backs this move" Otto realized what was happening, if a small back water like Argentina could leave the commonwealth right from under the Emperor's nose, what about the stronger nations like Sweden, Norway and Finland? Byzantium was going to be forced to invade Aregentina for the sake of the Commonwealth...

(October, 1937, Konstantinopolis)
Wilhelm III was furiusly writing orders to the generals of the different armies of South Amerika. They were to invade Aregentina on September 5th, unfortunetally, Peru was able to intercept the message which was sent, accidentally, on a non secure frequency. Peruvian troops moved into Aregntina with no problems and declared the nation a part of the Peruvian Soviet Soicalist's Republic. German troops could do nothing but curse under their breath as the backed out of the country. A few weeks later Peru annexed Bolivia and had almost rebuilt their aging Empire. The only thing Wilhelm could do was to order more troops to be recruited then stationed in South Amerika to await war with Peru.

- Byzantium hosts the first Olympic games in Konstantinopolis; Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Peru, Comolmbia, and Mexico boycott the events

Wow, it's so beautiful *sniff* Looks like you did a great job on the modding Mr. C. Well worth the wait. And I love that purple color, how did you edit that in?

Well, it is good to see the first post-related replys here.

King of Minors: Because if I did, I would not make it to 1948

VILenin: Yes, the purple is purtty, but I didn't do it, Mezzo did.

JVega: I'm using the Austria tag so I have a feeling that the ai is like, whoa, its Austria... lets kill it! Plus I declared war on Argentina, but they did provoke me....

Asia looks so un-purple.... I should fix that later.... but first order of business is Poland...

Go back to the CK section, the Empire is German, so I gave the Empire both German and Austrian leaders. :p I think it is jusified by the pure size of the Empire.

I'll hopefully have an update for 39-40 (I've finished playing that section) for this week. I don't want to play this whole section in a week so after this point I'll space them out a bit. But here is a hint, Warsaw looks like this:

Warsaw!

*gets on knees*

Why???!!!!!!!!

Great AAR, by the way. :D

WHY? Because those commies had it comming to them. Plus I had a spare Trintium bomb laying around and though, "Hey, what the hell?" So I stuck it on an ICBM stationed in Algeries and fired it at Warsaw to start the war. They had like 1/3 of their army stationed there so POW! No more Polish resistance. Well... they still had their "army" but that is proving not to be worth their pay....

You evil capitalists are all alike! You don't care about the little people.

But I guess you could easily argue that in Byzantium's case, might makes right.

Btw, could you either explain how Mezzo edited the color or direct me to the proper thread? Thanks. :)

He e-mailed it to me, I'll send it to you if I have time or can find the file.... it removes, though, the olive colour that Austria uses.

Oh, and I do care about the people, they are recieving 4000 IC (in consumer products) out of a necessary 1000. So HA! The economy is thriving. The war is not really what I had hoped it would be, but then again what was I thinking?

Thanks, I'll PM you my e-mail address in case you find it. As for the olive color, I'm just as glad to see it go. Purple is much nicer. :)

And that's so typical of you capitalists, you think you can buy off the people with your burgeois largesse! :p

May 24, 1939; Undisclosed Location

Kaiser Wilhelm III Dukas was becoming increasingly ill after spending the last few months going around the Empire and making sure the morale of his troops remained high. Dissent was at an all-time low after the a relatively unkown man named Georg von Norfolk wrote a song named "Byzantischleid." For the first time since 476, Byzantium was Byzantium, and not just some off-shoot of Rome. Citizens around the Empire were becoming increasingly nationalistic, and were ready to take on the Poles. Wilhelm was watching the course of world history change forever. On a small military base in <Censored by Byzantine Gov'nt>, the Kaiser watched as "Ralph" was detonated. The Semi-Fision bomb dentonated with the force of every bomb ever made before. The firey red ball rose high into the air, changing the direction of storms even a hundred miles away. The small test village that had been build around the bomb site was gone, vaporized in the million-degree heat that was released by Ralph. Dr. Ralph Yantis looked at the Kaiser who had not blinked since the blast.

ScreenSave0.jpg

"Someone set up us the bomb"

"Kaiser, that is not anything. An even more powerful one is schedualed for testing July 18, and we have an even more powerful one going throught its final checks before building."

"What would I do with such a weapon?" Wilhelm asked.

"Level a city, or an army... I don't know... that's Rommel's job." Dr. Tantis chuckled. Rommel had been promoted to Commander of the Imperial Armies, one of the most powerful men in the Empire.

"How do we get that thing to the enemy?"

"With one of these..." Yantis turned the Kaiser's attention to a drawing of a large rocket, named the KBLW SR/N 3. "It has a range of 2000km. The plan is that we will place a rocket in Algeris, place this bomb in the warhead, and fire it at any city between there and Novgorod."

"Warsau?" The Kaiser asked.

"That's the plan sir. The next level of rocket will be able to hit Közko (Cuzco) from Algeris."

"God, if only my ancestors knew what it meant when they took Algeris from the hethens..."

"Sir, but if I might suggest, you might want to get inside, take some penincilin and have some chicken-dumpling soup. You're not looking good..."

"I know, I'm just afraid Otto isn't ready... he's so worried about finding a princess these days he will hardly stay inside the same state as me."

"I know how you feel," The doctor began to pack his things and looked back at the Kaiser. His face became very sullen, "I'm sorry." Wilhelm was left in surprise as the man walked away quickly. Yantis killed himself a few hours later. His body was found in the shower room of the base, he had taken cyanide.

Algeris has never been scarier.

December 31, 1939

Otto stood up at the alter of the National Cathedral in Konstantinopolis. He was sweating but his brother conforted him from behind. As of now, Karl was more powerful then the heir-apparent having been named the sucessor to his father's elder brother, Johannes Prince of Kleinerdeutschland (Germania-Minor). Karl liked his postition because it gave him the freedom of marrying the woman of his choosing. Otto, on the other hand, had to choose between some twenty women, nine which were related to him within five generations. He was sicken by the thought. No, instead he had chosen Princess Sophie, whoes father was the Prince of Basrah-Damman. She was a beautiful woman and he was happy with his choice, but three months was not enough time, even for the lusty Großfuhrsten. He closed his eyes as the music began to play...

November 16, 1940, 5:00am; Over Warsaw

Hans Geborgen watched out of the small glass floor of the specially modified He 111. The plane circled quietly over the Polish capital, which was not prepared for the war that was declared only two days ago. Hans was using a radio guidence system to bring "Gabie," the rocket carring the Trintium bomb that was schedualed to level the Polish capital. The bomb was five minutes away. Using radar images from around the Empire, he guided the weapon into the target, the Polish Church of God, which was no longer a place of worship after the atheist communists took over. Instead, it was a place of death, a prision within a prision of a state. One minute. 45 seconds, 30, 15, 10, 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ..................

November 16, 1940, 5:07am; Warsaw

Gbor Galocsy was the milk man making the runs that night in Warsaw. He was happy to be one of the few with a job, but he didn't understand why he got paid as much as his jobless neighbors. He wanted to move his family out of Poland and head toward Russia or Byzantium, but the border were closed since tentions were rising. He heard the friendly hum of a plane hovering overhead. The searchlights weren't up, so he didn't worry about it. He had no idea that Poland was being invaded let alone attacked. he went along with his business but out of the corner of his eye he noticed a light. He turned toward it and watched. The sirens began to roar to life. The searchlights were all pointed at a single aircraft headed away from the city. It had the mark of the Byzantine Luftwaffe. If the Germans were trying to get away from the city without having droped anything.... Gbor looked back up at the light, to flew over him in a flash... a rocket... It headed toward the cathedral at the center of the city. Gbor saw a flash and then nothing.

November 16, 1940, 5:12; Over The Outskirts of Warsaw

Hans watched as the ball of fire engulfed the entire city. The skies were made blue as if it were day. He could watch building being blown over and then eaten by fire. He was in awe. The men on the He 111 began to take measurements, it was nothing more than a test... 5 million people put through a biggest test of all. As they flew back over toward the safety of home they saw hundreds of planes flying toward Radom, the target for a legion of paratroopers. Hans could already see hundreds of tiny parachutes opening all around the plane. None of those men saw what had happened to Warsaw, but they'd be the first Byzantine soldiers to enter the city, and they'd find nothing.

Since rockets were highly experimental by 1940 (even in this timeline), how come the milkman immediately recognized it as one?

Rockets have been in use in the west in our timeline since the 1700's at least, though small and inaccurate ("Rockets red glare" from the US national anthem). Science fiction also features them prominently since Jules Verne. Since all rockets look more or less them same, I'm assuming he saw a bullet shaped thing with fire coming out the end and assumed it was a rocket.

Great update, but did the empire really have to resort to nuclear weapons? Now you'll have citizens questioning that brutality for the rest of your existence.
