Okay, I downloaded Winrar, but when I tried to open the file using winrar, it said "Excell file not found", and wouldn't load.

That's very odd. I haven't had that trouble, and I don't even have Excel on my computer. You downloaded WinRar ... what happens when you right-click on the .rar file and click 'extract files'? You should select the Paradox Interactive folder.

I think my problem is that the PC is not even recognizing WinRar. Is there anything special I need to do after I download it?

Addendum: I've uploaded a new version in both .rar and .zip format, which will hopefully cover everybody's needs. Also changed the capital of Anatolia to Dorylaion, as it wasn't known as Eskişehir until 1925.

Yep. If you'll just copy the EU3 Demo folder directly into your Paradox Interactive folder, it will overwrite everything and no need to copy files individually.

Hey, I just downloaded your file, but I've never had a successful dealing with a .rar file before, and I can't figure out how to make this one work either. Can you please help me?

Download and install winrar (by far the best "unzipping" program out there) and it works like a zip file.

After beefing Austria up a bit, modding in Byzantium was my top priority, being a tremendous Byzantophile myself. I hate to admit it, but in EU2, after seeing the Byzantines get wiped out in any given GC unless I took up their mantle personally, I kept an alternate 1419 scenario that I typically started from for all of my Grand Campaigns. I altered Byzantium to retain all of its Greek and Balkan possessions to give it a better fighting chance from the start. And that's to say nothing of Crusader Kings, wherein I meticulously editted the 1066 scenario to shatter every single Muslim power in the East to single-province status, just to ensure that Byzantium wouldn't be wiped out by the Fatimids or Seljuks. Ahistorical, I know. Borderline obsessive-compulsive, sure. Hope this mod helps fulfill a few eccentric pipedreams besides mine.

I'd relax. It's a game. I don't think anybody would worry too much if you modded the game to break the back of France, England, Russia and Austria just for fun.

Besides, I'm sure most of the people going for mods like this are fans of antiquity rather than enemies of the Turks... No doubt if it had have been the Spanish who put the final nail into Byzantium's coffin, people would be editing their game to reduce Iberia to a mockery of it's historical power instead of the Muslims or Turks.

Let's not let nationalism get in the way of some good honest fun, unless we're talking world cup, in which case I fully advocate people draping themselves in silly colours, honking needlessly, and stressing over pointless rivalries both ancient and modern... As long as nobody gets hurt, of course.

Cool mod by the way, adds another spark to demo to keep us all going for another few days...

I am extremely sorry if anything I've posted has offended. It certainly wasn't intended to. I have no animosity whatsoever towards Muslims or Turks. My intent behind the mod was simply to create a 'fantasy' situation, purely ahistorical, entirely neutral. It is just a game, and I did my utmost to present this mod in a way so as not to flare up any tempers from any corners, be they Turkish, Byzantophile, or otherwise. Since I am sensitive to your concerns, I will remove the paragraph you cited in your post.

You get angry because someone makes a mod with the interest of beefing up it's power while downgrading it's "enemies"? I'd hate to think what the Americans think of me and my quests to crush the "Tax Revolt of 1770-whatever" at all costs in these games if people get so up in arms over something as trivial as Byzantium Mod.

If you made a mod where the Turks were increased in Power and then conquered the Papacy, I don't think the Catholics are going to get all angry at you. Why? Because you're gaming experiences and OPINIONS, for that matter, however wrongheaded I might think they are, are valid as the next, and no ammount of outrage can change that. Besides this mod isn't even remotely close to historical, and we all know this. It's a fantasy mod, Just like if I made a mod (probablly for Vicky considering the Time Frame) where the American Revolution never succeded. While I might enjoy entertaining the notion, Even if millions of Americans are offended, It doesn't change a damn thing about real life. The Revolution still succeded, Napoleon still lost Waterloo and Constantiople still fell to the Turks.

So until these Byzantophiles develop time machines, I suggest you save your outrage because Turkey's place in history is still safe.

I've crushed the Presbyterian Revolt several times as His Glorious Majesty George III. I'll eventually do it again once I've played a few GC's to get used to everything.
