After playing a test game with Spain, I decided to play Byzantium once again (I played more than four BYZ games in IN), but I noticed that all the nations I usually DoW on day one (Rhodes, for example) are guaranteed by large nations. Brother Bean didn't have such problem in his beta AAR. What's the deal?

Just wait until you start a game and a country you've never heard of, all the way accross the world, declares war and you find out you warned them.

Declare war anyway and just hope they don't bother show up.

Also, the OPM you war on usually tends to be war leader, so if their province falls before yours does, you're good!

Sounds like Defender of Faith at work to me. If you're DotF, you're always called to war when an infidel declares war on a member of the faith you're protecting no matter how far away that is. It always says "we've warned them not to start any wars" in the call to arms.

You should probably re-read Bean's last update. They thought BYZ had it easy and made some changes.

The country getting attacked was of a different religion as well.

Can you still sweep up the Greek minors by funding patriots? That's what I always did - no need for DoWs.

Yes, and I got a good strategy. I used this before, but didn't remember. So I blocked the Bosphorus and DoW'd Ottomans. Then I just took all the regions on the European side, waited for their WE to rocket up and demanded all of them. Meanwhile I funded patriots.
