What, exactly, makes these events fire? I thought it fired if the Emperor had a diplomacy skill of less than 9 or 10 or something like that? In my current game, everything was fine, but the last couple years the Empire has been wracked by civil war, and I can't figure out why. None of my monarch's stats have changed. He has a diplomacy skill of 12 and an intrigue of 8. Badboy is clear. Was it because of his age? They seemed to start after he turned 50.

Might be a trait he got? Not sure about the age thing, I've seemingly noticed vassals disliking a younger king, so perhaps an older one would make them antsy too. Did he have children?

Yep, he's got a ton of kids...does it like a rabbit, I guess. He's on his fifth wife- the first four died giving birth. He does have the Trusting trait...maybe that's it? But, he had it for decades before the Civil War events started...

Trusting is generally bad for the Emperor. I'd bet your minions saved up loads and loads of frusturation for long time and then unleashed it all in one go. Or in other words, your luck ran out. ;)

But if you want to know for sure, you can always take a peek at intrigue_events file.

That's probably it. He didn't always have the trusting trait- he got it in his early 30's when the Empress cheated on him and a son was revealed as a bastard. I guess his vassals just waited 20 years til he was old to spring the nasty surprises. ;)

Hmmm...nope, trusting isn't a trigger. A Intrigue of below 10 is, which he does have...but elective law (I think) is also required, which I don't have, unless I'm not reading it right. I don't know what to make of it.

When the event fired in my game, having Byzantine as a secondary title by the way.

My ruler was 12 years old, his stats were martial 7, diplo 1, intrigue 12, stewardship 9. His traits were, lustfull, vengefull, selfish, mercifull and indulgent. My law was salic consanguinity.

I guess in my case it was the diplo rating of 1 that triggered it.
