Turkish will become accepted, there is no point in culture shifting except RP. Seen as Constantinople is your main trade node you will keep upgrading the trade there, so I doubt in any point that will change.

EDIT: Just seen the 'just to make a point" argument :D
I'm still planning on switching cultures since as my empire grows there's always a chance that turkish won't be an 'accepted culture' anymore (It happened in my Great Britain save).

Well I have been the happy owner of this:

https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/803x502q90/132/ktov.png

and still its accepted. But then as I said I build every manufactory and trade building in the Constantinople trade zone.

EDIT: Scratch that you are right, I just load that save again and apparently its not accepted >.<

Must have happened with me not noticing.

does displacing the ottomans still give you similar military potential (in forcelimits, income, and manpower?) I know you won't have ghazi but that is just for manpower regen.

As far as I know you cant tag switch from Ottos to byz anymore.

Also yes by removing the Ottos from Anatolia you get an event that increases manpower and you get some base tax in the capital.

Also the triumphs give some hefty bonuses, don't know if it comes to the same standards as the Ottos, but when I take over Anatolia, I never seem to run out of manpower again. Province stats don't change by province owner, but you get the "Restore the Theme system" decision that gives you a 20ish% boost in manpower if I remember correctly.

Question: Is it better to stick to Orthodox or switch to Catholic? If Catholic is better what's the best way to switch?

Never Switched, you need the Orthodox patriarch authority IMHO, in order to help convert all that Muslims and keep revolts down. Especially if you plan to push through the middle east (which you should regardless of your other plans). You counterbalance the tax drain by passing the ''Church taxes'' NI.
Religious Ideas, 100% Patriarch Authority and Byz Ideas should be enough to convert Mecca and Rome.
If it isnt you can pass a couple Missionary NI. But its not necessary, divine Supremacy event will hit often.

The only benefit I can see to switch to Catholic is for joining the HRE early on and boosting relations, but it is a big gamble and I think unnecessary. You need to take a latin OPM in Italy and move the capital there to do that. Or one of the Balkan catholic provinces.

The only bonus I can think of is the curia, but I doubt you will be able to control it.

Albania is now a vassal. Would it still work if I annex them and then send in the missionary? Also I suppose I should get my orthodox rating as low as possible, right?

Doesn't Albania start Orthodox?

Patriarch authority doesn't count when religion switching as far as I know.

I'm pretty sure Albania is Catholic at the start of the game. The alternatives would be to conquer something in Italy or in Hungary - for example Croatian lands. Ragusa is also nice, and it's Catholic.

Ive been pretty unlucky i guess. I got the ottomans to break but i had venice and the mamluks dow 1 week interval. So i restarted and it went ok but the greek patriots never spawned evenwith 40% revolt risk, all the other rebels spawned.

I bet Paradox is cheddaring at this gruyeresome abuse of the rules.

I just tried this last night and it was hilariously horrible to watch the Ottoman units start evaporating at last (right around 1450). How many times had those doom stacks killed me over the years? Sure, I've pulled the purple phoenix from the ashes before but this was one of my sweetest EU moments of all time, so thank you Slavoslav!

The Greeks never revolted but the Bulgarians did, then the Albanians so I ended up cutting the war short. Quick question - even with looting I ended up taking about 20 loans before I took the peace, does that sound right to you guys?

20 loans? I didn't take any. IIRC you'll get 50 ducats per year from looting anatolia. I ended up with almost 300 ducats by the time the doomstacks disappeared. Did you hire advisors? You really don't need them until you finish the first war.

Well, I didn't need any loans - always had around 120 after a fresh round of looting; but I also never had the Ottomans completely collapse or any revolts outside of Anatolia. My war dragged on, but did eventually end successfully.

I think I deviated in three ways - was iron man so I cant go back and check - I did not pull off the maneuver with the constantinople fleet, did not blockade albania, and had a minor setback when at speed 3 I didn't scorch quickly enough.

My run rate was -3.5g/month, the big expense was the navy with 25 ships. I only hired a Level 1 naval advisor (+10% morale) when it was time to destroy the fleet at .9/month.

Maybe I don't know how to loot. Just move a single mounted unit into a province and it loots automatically, right? Resets once a year, so do a lap annually?

Unit needs to have a leader.
Unit needs to rest in the province for a day.
Resets every 6 months.

There is absolutely no need to take any loans unless you get in a bit of trouble beating down the rump of their army once you cross the straights and need a few mercs.

Is Algiers joining the war expected? The first game Venice declared war on Albania so I needed to restart. The next two games Algiers joined the side of the ottomans. So when it comes to looting, do I need to wait many years for it to constantly reset? What year should I expect to have the proper amount of ships and finally attack Ottoman fleet (and possibly Algiers) ? Also when Algiers joins they will siege the undefended province
