What would have happened? I read that Morea was prosperous while Constantinople was declining in the last century of the Empire. How long could the Byzantines have survived had they abandoned Constantinople?

Well, this arguably happened, since Morea was still ruled by Greeks until a few years after Constantinople's falls, and but they didn't last long.

You can speculate about psychological benefits if the empire had consciously re-centered itself in Morea earlier, but I don't think they had any realistic hope of surviving, except possibly as vassals.

The byzantines did move to morea after Constantinople was conquered but in 1456 the turks conquered all of Morea except some venetian towns.
I visited Morea last summer and went to Mystra, the last capital of the byzantines it was really beautiful (all of Morea is and laden with history)

So Mystra is the 3rd Rome!!!!!
And Moscow is the fourth!!!
My favourite historical empire is the Byzantine, and i am very glad to see that Rome survived even after 1453 for a while!!!!!

Byzantine refugees fled to Morea after the fall of Constantinople, but I don't think the Moreans declared there despotate or whatever it was as the Empire. Nor was an Emperor coronated in Morea either I don't think.

Also the last Byzantine state to fall was Trebizond, which fell in 1461, and did have Emperor (Although it had been independant since 1204 so you might not regard it as a continuation of the Byzantines).

Well, some scholars on East Roman history regard the fall of Trebizond and not the fall of Constantinoble as the end of The Byzantine Empire..;)

I read that too, but I don't think so. I think the fall of Trebizond and other outposts were just the fall of the remnants of the Byzantine Empire.
