Byzantines collapsing.

So I'm playing as Ironman Aragon in 1066,

I've been doing really good.

Anyway, the Byzantines have been getting destroyed. They initially lost Armenia, then they retaliated by capturing Jerusalem.

That triggered the Jihads, both the Shia and Sunni attacked Anatolia. The Byzantines surrendered to the Shia, the Fatmids got most of Anatolia. There was a 1 county thick strip of land in the East that still belonged to the Greeks. They lost that to the Sunnis a year later.

The Crusades triggered. We went for Anatolia. The Crusade went on for about 8 years, back and forth.Then I finally joined. I got us up to about 50%, but then had to withdraw due to a succession crisis.
4 years later or so, the Crusade failed.

The Byzantines are Holy Warring for a Duchy, but I'm not confident.


How can I fix this?

I tried already. The Basileus understandably doesn't want to have his family to marry into some backwater kingdom in Spain.

You should know that the turning point that marked the beginning of the Roman Empire's final decline occurred in 1071, soon after your start date, then. It would be historically accurate to see them decline. It's just that this game makes empires that are rising rise fast and (in the rare occasions when they fall) fall fast as well.
