My count of Salerno starting in 1020 (I edited the start date, the main difference is there was no Norman invasion and no Comneni emperors) became father of the Byzantine emperor within a century and a half or two centuries(will check). I now seem to be able to work vassal plots well, and had twice the power of my liege lord. Placing an army in Constantinople forced him to abdicate.
This is my problem. Unthinkingly I gave the title of Despot to my second son thinking it was like just another title giving a small emolument and change in attitude. Instead my incompetent and brutal second son Samuel, king of Bulgaria is the heir now. He was 1 or 0 stewardship on his own. My vassals are not minded to allow a law change (most are in prison if they hold a country, four civil wars in a row just wasn't enjoyable).
Is there any way other than law change and murder (my emperor is young enough and unlike a Latin ruler, kinslayer seems hard to remove, just a decision for a Catholic or an event)?
He has 15 stewardship. He is also an inveterate plotter and rebel, but his stats are good, really good.
