So I am playing a HIP game in 2.4.5 with the New World Order start. Finally have my empire together which is all well and good but then I went and had another kid, who is now Born In The Purple and thus set to take the Empire title (but not any of the other stuff). Everything else will go to my oldest son in Primogenetore.

Now, if I understand how it works, I should be able to use the Symbasileus honorary title to override Born in the Purple. I can use it on some of my kids... but not on the oldest son who is the only one that needs it.

So, why can't I give Symbasileus to my oldest son? And what do I do? You can't muder plot your own kids anymore, so how do I prevent a giant mess now?

I figured it out on my own but it's a bit weird. For some reason being Cupbearer was blocking his ability to be given the Symbasileus title... some of the other Byzantine specific titles don't seem to be blocked in this way (I'd already also made this kid one of the four special honorary counselors).

If I could offer a helpful suggestion I think a tooltip should probably be added about this to the Symbasileus description, only because the Sybasileus title is quite important since it can alter your succession laws.

I agree. Also the new imperial mechanic where you are asked whether or not you want to give the thema to the claimant or someone else upon the holder's death happens far too often since frequently the title is usurped 30 seconds later. There needs to be something in place to stop immediate usurpation. Furthermore the new coronation mechanic needs to have a skip letters option since at one point I had 80 people responding to the coronation invitation and it took ages to click through them.

Apparently you're not talking about the latest releases, which addressed that re: coronations.

As far as 'something in place to stop immediate [recently after succession] usurpation,' that is not the right approach. It has no realistic grounding and is implausible. Instead, if the event spam is a bit much, we could perhaps implement some decisions to put your current preferences for title distribution upon auto-pilot and then have the AI carry-out dispensing viceroys' titles for you -- have your council do it according to your decreed preference or something. I'm not really sure what 'distribution' strategies might exist besides 'always assent' or 'always assent unless I can give it to a same-dynasty pick' or various minor variations on that sort of thing.

Frankly, I almost always just assent, but I prefer to play feudal-style anyhow.

@zijistark
Usually, later on in a roman game, I hand out duke titles so that 1 duke per de jure kingdom has all the titles in his de jure kingdom. Then, when they die, usually (due to gavelkind succession) all there titles are split amongst their children and I have to spend pretige to re consolidate. Outside of the roman region I just use kingdom titles which are so helpful.

It would be greate if the roman empire had some titualr kingdoms to hand out in order to help cosolodate some of those duchies where the roman empire can't make kingdoms. Though not sure how historical this is.

The next release of EMF will feature a way to unlock the ability to create the de jure kingdoms in the interior via de jure law reform, and I think that addresses your need fully. [Work is already done and tested.]

That's good news. Will they be exarchates, dioceses or something like that? Is there any historical precedent for Roman emperors handing out massive regions to individuals that weren't family members? Will they still be the old Nikaia, Trezibond, Konya etc. ones or a separate layer of de-jure kingdoms?

Seriously the work you guys do is much appreciated. And I've mentioned this before but the fact you keep older versions up for previous patches if people prefer is absolutely top notch.

I'm also having problems with the Byzantine succession. In my current game I don't see the Symbasileus honourary title or Despot, which would override the born in purple trait. I don't have the option of awarding it. My oldest son is not the cupbearer so that can't be it.
