Yeah cuz that would be the biggest problem with the trade system. Shockingly realistic otherwise.
It would be a great addition, I'd infinitely rather Paradox add that instead of going around playtesting and adding to minor tags that some fans on the forums play.

Byzantium has had an entire DLC dedicated to it (In both CK2 and EU4, by the way). It really does not need any more attention.

Give France, Spain, England, Prussia, Austria, Russia, Mughals, Qing, and The Ottomans a dlc and then we can talk about our favorite 3PM again.

Now that's a mature opinion. However i think that the point of this thread isnt to add a dlc, but rather a 10 min hotfix.

Wow, a simple proposal for a minor addition now has some people up in arms saying "NO NO NO NO NO NO". Are you guys kidding me? Even if you don't like the Roman Empire, the Romans will still fall to the Ottos in most cases, even with this change.

This proposal from the OP was meant to give the human controlled RE a unique experience. It's a simple add on, not a $20 DLC for one nation. It's not gonna change anything else.

Of course it does. It's the last legitimate and true piece of the ancient Roman Empire on the map.

Sorry, what relevance does this have? "This country has been here a long time, therefore it should be buffed to absurd levels of ahistorical power"? So if Paradox ever makes an Australian Aboriginal country, that should have +100% discipline for all seven ideas?

Odd how you picked a series of areas whose influence waned after the 1490s.

The byzantines were falling to the dustbin of history, and even if they had a reformer in charge that wouldn't change the fact that the Atlantic was becoming more of a nexus of trade.

Or let's talk about that, the fall of Byzantium was a large pressure towards the Portuguese and Spaniards looking to the West for a passageway to China, what would occur if they didn't fall? Are we going to implement drastically dynamic trade nodes to fit a world where the Byzantines survive even 20% of the time?

Ehm the Venetian-Genoan monopoly was the real problem and not the fall of Byzantium.

A slightly off topic question but why is it that western tech nations get the Byzantine refugees event that gives them cheaper tech but Byzantine ideas do not? Apparently refugees from Byzantium are good enough to improve western tech nations while they are not good enough to improve their own eastern tech nation?

The refugees each grab a handful of monarch points as they exit the ruined city of Constantinople. They clutch these precious monarch points tightly in their little Byzantine hands as they sail across the sea to your country. They don't let the birds fly away, or let the paper get wet, or let the swords get rusty. When they arrive, if you say they can stay, they invest their monarch power in your research endeavours. That is how they reduce your tech cost even though their own tech costs more than yours.

The argument that it takes resources away from more deserving countries is frankly ridiculous. It takes about five minutes of a mediocre coder's time to add in a government, give it to Byzantium, and then localise it.

Actually, aside from some NI ideas suggestions, nobody is asking Paradox to buff Byzantium to absurd levels of ahistorical power.
The thread is about giving them back a form of unique government (and again, I prefer to be able to change to Absolute or Costitutional monarchy when it's time, rather than being stuck with the same government for all the game).

True, which is why I suggested that Westernization should pull you out of it.

What about those tags already in western tech that re-establish Byzantium with the decision all greek orthodox get? Should they get the unique government and be stuck with it, since they cannot and need not westernize?
A common strategy is to form Byzantium with another tag, mostly western tech, strong in naval power, such as Venice or Aragon.

Point is, I'd rather have an expanded set of DHE dealing with the challenges a resurgent Byzantium would have faced (for example, rivalry with Venice, trade profits waning due to the discovery of a route around Africa, modernization of the state). Those are, of course, not easy and quick changes, while an unique government would indeed be both easy and quick.

No, they shouldn't because they wouldn't have carried over Byzantium's archaic administration.

I'd honestly really like to see -core costs on their idea set somewhere. A resurgent Rome would eventually look to re-conquer its lost lands, and it has nothing really to help it accomplish that except a few missions which give claims (which are rather useless now).

And for everyone complaining that Byzantium already has a DLC: That DLC kinda sucked, especially compared to all the other great Paradox DLCs. Even taking into account its price point, all it added were a few missions and one event set. Unit textures add more. The only cool thing is mending the great schism.

Good suggestion from the government part, but I have to disagree in the ideas department as the current ideas are great. I do think that a more fitting gov form to Blurple would be tribal kingdom(just to annoy blurplephiles).
Byzantium's archaic administration.

I feel a disturbance in the Rage.

So much BYZ haters hahahaha.

I really don't understand this. How would a request from a player about BYZ governement form (1), forbid devs to work on other countries? Just explain it to me please.

1 - Wich takes like 2mn to change.

Because this what happens when those fools hear someone make a suggestion for the ERE.

Grand Historian: I think Byzantium could use a unique government type to give it more uniqueness like it did in previous patches.

The foolish haters see that as,

Grand Historian: I think Byzantium should be the most powerful nation in the world and deserves 1234345456238943 more expansions dedicated just to the ERE.

See the issue here? While Byzantine aficionados jokingly get called Byzantinophiles, this word is often used by the rest of the community to shut down any proposals to make the ERE more fun, which I think is stupid.

Uhm... They did burn a sizeable amount of my city once for supporting Marius, and then again for supporting Catilina.
I guess I'm a "byzantohater" now
