Hi there,

I've wanted to start a Byzantine game for a while now. I have read the guides for them on the EU2 Wiki and got some good tips. However, I am using MyMAP so I was wondering if anyone had any MyMAP specific tips for the Byzantines as a lot of the things on the wiki are obsolete with the different provinces etc. you get with the mod.

Cheers.

You should do it with AGCEEP, many events and stuff.

As for tips, try and chew up the smaller nations first, then when you have a base go for the ottomans. And try to avoid banckruptcy, which is easier said hten done.

there are 2 better mods when it comes to playing byzanthum:
-"byzanthum triumphant" for both vanila agceep as much as for extrawatck
-interegnum (old abberation )

the standard agceep mode has a "fantasy byzhantum" indeed but is a "basic" one with only a few intreasting events.

or try it with WATKABAOI. The Byzantines had a few more possession in 1337.
but no events whatshowever...depends on what the player looks for, for me events do provide a much more "interactive" and role playing "benefit" ;)

I've downloaded your mod beregic (Byzantium Triumphant) and giving it a go. It seems a bit like cheating to start with such a large stack (60 iirc) though :).

:eek:o i forgat to adjust those things, thanks for reminding me. however you can always disband some troops to "adjust" them to your own feelings on the matter ;)
also is not my mod, i have no credits for making any of the events, except for adjusting all, and expanding a few ,for the extrawatck mod.
however , as you probablly will soon discover, is not as "easy" as it seems, and there are many decisions a player has to make. i reccomend playing it on very hard where i assure you will get at least one or more civil wars eventually. and is quiet common for european ai's to "gang" up on you even if manage to get rid of ottomans without a scratch. also depending on your choices of expansion your technology advancements might suffer greatlly.
and once the income ratio is established byz has a lot of personalized random colonial events to keep the player "busy" at all times.

Why would you want to play as the bizantines anyway? They won't get any historical events, and they just suck overall.

Just be a man and play as the Ottomans, at least they'll have decent events and generals and, well, FUN.

Because any newbie can kick ass with the Ottomans, but rebuilding the Byzantine empire is one of the best challenges in single player.

Also, like everyone else in the thread said, there are a bunch of mods that give the Byzantines leaders and events and stuff.

Exactly.

Also I've never liked playing the Ottomans. I only really feel "comfortable" playing European nations so never wanted to conquer Europe with Turks.. just feels wrong to me.

Mods and specific scenarios change this.

The Ottos are the most enjoyable from the superpowers really...

Especially, if you start from a late scenario! ;)

Great empire, but lots of useless land, your competitors will inevitably have better techs, not a hard challenge, but harder then playing as über-rich France or Austria.
Not as boring as England or Spain, because you can fight lots of wars, but you don't have to explore/colonize, what - for me - is the least interesting part of EU2.

So would you class Russia as a "European nation" here?
