I'm not sure if this is a bug but I have been infuriated by the fact that if you grant a county as the Basileus it creates a republic by default unless you go through and systematically appoint new vassals for the cities in that county. It's obnoxious and while granting counties on auto pilot I end up with a bunch of republics I didn't want. Owing to this I now have a son and two cousins who may as well have been monked because they're Lord Mayors when I meant to grant them counties in order to put them in charge of themes. Is this because of the Imperial government type or what?

You need to make sure city and temple barons are held before granting, it’s a quirk of the imperial government cause the emperor can hold city’s along with castles and it interferes with granting mass holdings in a county or duchy if there’s empty city’s or temples

I think it’s cause when you usually grant holdings to a courtier it tries to copy the liege government, and it can’t so it defaults to one of the holdings

I know how to avoid it, it's just irritating. The Fatimids and Seljuks collapsed and I'm steamrolling through the Levant which means I'm having to distribute a lot of land. In the process of doing that it's easy to forget to tediously go through and auto-grant every city and bishopric. I'm playing Ironman so I can't just go back either.

I actually like it, it is easyer for me to bypass the 10% rule this way, unless it still takes it into account and i have not granted all 10% of them alredy

It's so f****d up. I play Venice currently, it's 960 from 936 and I have to compete with Rival Republics of Sicily, Crete, Cyprus and Cilicia

Basileus is actually doing that smart, we dont want a forth crusade to happen to us, do we?

The game ai should prefer the highest fort level as the prime barony 99% of cases this is a castle with mr being one that doesn’t prefering high tax rate

I know, moaning on high level here as the AI is for once doing it right to compete with me, the player. 99% of games in Iron Century it's landlocked Republic of Mesopotamia, first, though, and ultimately the AI too should be restricted in the amount of vassal republics it can create (not totally sure if Imperial Admin is exempted from that), so you'll end up with a handful of Doux' after a while.
