... I'd be happy to act as an 'elector' without running for office myself.

That's what I have been doing :)

Edit: I also think that the voting has become quite chaotic recently with so many different proposals that no-one quite knows what they're voting for.

I agree with this actually, I am finding it quite confusing quite a lot of the time and it deters me from voting on many things frankly.

And stringing together NI chains might be good in an SP game but with the 'elective' model it should be a fresh vote every time.

I agree with this as well, I did a chain as well in my vote but, truth be told, I only really half-knew what I was voting on.

I've just recently bought the game and started visiting the forum and this seems like a fun idea.

I'd love to join in and hope we get a resolution to the most recent vote soon.

I'm playing on IN (eu complete) so I'm not sure if the save games are compatible but I'd be happy to act as an 'elector' without running for office myself.

Edit: I also think that the voting has become quite chaotic recently with so many different proposals that no-one quite knows what they're voting for.

And stringing together NI chains might be good in an SP game but with the 'elective' model it should be a fresh vote every time.

How darest thou child, cometh to our lands, and defy our ways?

----

On a more serious note: The changes that the last 2 expansions make are really huge, so sadly, you can't play unless you get those. You ARE however free to vote.

As for getting someone else to GM: That is entirely at the discretion of the GM. I did that during the game I hosted, but that was because I was leaving for a really long time. I think some few days breaks are acceptable, honestly. Some people are just busy.

Yeah, chaining votes together can lead to many problems, but we can of course find solutions. One that jumps out at me is counting only the first idea as an actual vote while the others are more like suggestions for the coming rounds, so other people know just why you're getting this now - so you switch it later, and then the next person can call a vote on those without as much trouble.

I don't know, but if you want my opinion, the more we leave stuff to common sense, and the less hard laws we impose, the better. Laissez-faire my friend, we ain't a communist dictatorship here :p

I agree for a few days of inactivity too but if you think about it it has been stalled for a month now and like i said the latest voting deadline has been passed 6 days ago so his vote won't count anymore anyway. Yet again i am sorry if i sound like a dick i just think that right now there's a chaos going on here and i want some order and direction

Okay, I've tallied the NI vote for us:

CAD: Tabanese, PanzerCommander
QFTNW: AsdfeZxcas
Grand Navy: Andre Massena
Press Gangs: Cuendillar

Cuendillar tried to change his vote but he was outside the timeframe so disallowed
1anrs voted too late so also disallowed

So the result is that Church attendance duty has been chosen as the new National Idea with two votes.

Edit: I'll try to work out the war votes in a bit.

War Votes:

All war votes are invalid as a vote was never properly called.

cuendillar called for a crusade against Morocco but specified a 24hr timeframe- this call is therefore invalid.

Panzercommander called for war with Algiers but didn't give a time for close of polls- this call is therefore invalid.

Tabanese suggested combining the votes but again failed to give a time for close of polls- again invalid.

I conclude that no vote on war with Morocco or Algiers was ever properly called- If anyone wants to call for a vote in the proper way they can do it now.

So the last valid votes were for war with Sicily (How's that going?)
and for Church attendance duty as the next NI.

Now we just have to wait for our king to return to his kingdom before we can move forward.

You're not being a dick. I actually agree with you.

Before I go on and address anything else, an explanation is in order. I've played a few years in game time. The war with Sicily was a success. I was on my way to finishing my term when the NI came up and the NI spurred the war debate. Combined with my election and the Sicily vote, the out-of-game time is approaching a month I'd guess. The six days since deadline is unacceptable however; I can only apologise for this. Let me clear: I want the members of the fora to put the game's interest ahead of mine. All the same, cheers for the defence Panzer.

Okay... so other issues.

King Log and cuendillar, welcome! Thank you, King Log, for tallying the votes. I'm going to point out that as the forum rules fixed the deadlines for all votes to be 72 hours, pushed to the closest 20:00GMT, it seems unreasonable to conclude two popular votes (three if you count my combine; I'm not sure I did that) as invalid. Therefore, I'm going to go ahead and fight those wars as I don't want my term to last any longer. I'll stand trial if you find this contemptible, which would be a fair response. :)

As for the confusing level of votes, I'm open to advice as to how to handle that. I want to remove myself as a bottleneck as I do become busy frequently. However, a vote spam is clearly confusing, so we can't leave it completely unmonitored. Perhaps five players, including myself, could come forward as GMs? Still authority but spread out. Feel free to chip in your two cents, I'm off to fight the heathens and bring my term to an end. :D

I'll address the other issues when I have more time, but for now I want to talk about the war votes:

Canceling them was just silly. And I'm not just saying this because I proposed one: It is clear people here wanted it to happen. Not a single person objected, I think.

Remember what votes are for: Acting as the people want. So when that is absolutely clear - what's the point?
Had it been a close call, sure, you could say deadline issues meant some people's voices weren't heard properly, and it's only fair to cancel it or call for a re-vote. But here? Can anyone claim it would have made any difference?

Rules are here for organization. They're here so people know on what basis to act. But rules are arbitrary - Sometimes they're just silly and you HAVE TO ignore them. Common sense before rules, people.

I half-thought that my votes would be disallowed. However, I wasn't very motivated to vote because of the chain nature of the National Ideas - I still don't know what the chain was? Was it existing slots or the next three ideas? No idea, can someone explain?

...As for the confusing level of votes, I'm open to advice as to how to handle that.

Well one National Idea at a time for a start, I would say. If there is one slot open, you vote for one idea. The war votes weren't too confusing, although they possibly could become so if people keep specifying too many conditions.

Potentially a good idea - although I am reluctant to volunteer as I can get really busy as well and may not give the job the justice it deserves. That is one major reason I am not standing in elections. I will refrain from complaining about the length of time between updates since I am not willing to volunteer myself :)

Even though the voting was improper, everyone voted for war so it should stand.

Again, I don't believe it was improper. However, that is just differing opinion. What is important is you stepped forward to help move the game along and regardless of how you did so, I appreciate the involvement. ^_^

As for the confusion regarding the votes, I understood it as permission to use the same slot in the following order. Still, I see the confusion and ambiguity so it would be proper to adopt a principle of simplicity with regards to votes. To be frank, I thought the initial confusion was regarding the number of votes going on, not the nature of one in particular. My mistake.

Now, I've finished my term. The crusade still stands, we have colonies and Sicily is a vassal. Money may be tight and I didn't enact gilded iconography yet. I won't be standing this election, so as part of the AAR I'll hopefully get round to doing, I'll have Bart chucked out of office.

Here is the save.

And with that done,

>>> I officially call an election vote. <<<

As this post has being called on the 1st of May, the deadline is the 4th of May, 20:00GMT.
