Are there events in VIP to try to buy Cuba for USA or CSA ?

Before secession war it was an idea (and after for CSA) and it is a solution to avoid war that is the only way to obtain it at present.

Vanilla has an event for the CSA to buy Cuba as well. never mind. I thought they did.

President Polk attempted to buy Cuba AND Puerto Rico in the 1840s. Spain declined the offer, and the New Englanders objected because they didn't want any more slave states (Cuba and PR had slaves until about the late 1870s).

Though it is not in the game, but there was the Tenet Amendment between the UK and the USA promising that the USA will make Cuba independent. The UK feared that the US will use the island as a super naval base to control the Gulf of Mexico (and later the Panama Canal).

Remember Henry Clay argued for conquering all of central America to expand slavery.
