Buying Crusader Kings

I'm a big Fan of Paradox games and a frequent reader of the Crusader Kings II forum and all the excitement for Crusader Kings II now made me think I should give the original a try.

You guys think that is a good idea or compared to newer games would I be disappointed?

It's different from the other Paradox games, more role-play orientated. You play a dynasty, need to arrange marriages for your heirs, etc. Strategically, its less challenging than a game like EU2, eg, alliances are pretty meaningless in CK. I don't think it costs a lot to buy on Amazon, so if you find these threads interesting, give it a try. Though make sure you buy the complete pack, which includes the Deus Vult expansion.

Buying CK + DV would definitely be a good thing to do, though the game is a bit different then the other Paradox-games you have.

You might want to take a look at the AAR-section, to see what all is possible in the game.

Buy it. Its awesome! I still play it from time to time, even though I have EU3. Just don't expect the same level of graphics and complexity that the newer games have.

hi guys thanks for the replies.. I bought the game and are quite happy with it (expect that my dynasty members tend to be somewhat lazy in the bedroom and let my dynasty die out quite frequently but I hope I will get a handle on that )

one more question .. bought 'crusader kings complete' on amazon .. can someone give me a hint where I find the key to register the game?

There isn't any for CK Complete ... so you'll have to live without a cool little avatar. Registration is not needed to access the sub-forums.

And since you have it now, let me just advice you to patch the game with the latest patch (from October 2008), as CK Complete is only patched with the June patch.

I am pretty sure that in CK forum, none of the subforums are closed to non-registered useers ... since CK Complate is without a registration key. Would kinda suck if you couldn't access the tech support on a game you bought just because a reg. key was never generated for it

I am fairly certain that Johan (or someone at PI) have stated that.

There are no 'registered' user only sub-forums for CK.

You mean you have read on the FtG forum that there are 'hidden' CK-forums only visible to people who have registered DV ? If that is the case, then that is not true.

If you mean that there are FtG sub-forums, only visible to people who have registered FtG then that is correct.
