Buy online and download?

Can someone advise - if I buy online, can I just download the game or do I have to wait for disc to be mailed?

I bought a code online then activated and downloaded it with Steam.

I just bought all of my Cities content from Humble Bundle and redeemed the Steam codes supplied.
