Thank you for all the answers. Guess I'll buy the game from them. Anyways, is there any list around with all the Paradox Authorised Resellers?

Yea, was wondering about that too. Imperial games seems legit to me , but a list or some form of confirmation from Paradox that they are authorised to sell their games would be the final assurance I would need to be 110% sure about them.

Rebellion, who did Sniper Elite, issued a list with official steam resellers in 2014. Jason Leavey, ESO Community Coordinator issued a list in 2015 with their official resellers, so some are doing it. Anybody know if Paradox intend to do the same, or if not then why?

Bonus info: Imperial Games was on the 2015 list as an official ESO retailer. Link: http://www.epicbundle.com/official-steam-reseller

Post editet for spelling errors.

Are we going to have a thread for each favourite reseller? :)
www.isthereanydeal.com when in doubt, if it is there it should be 99% official, the odd problematic ones get removed eventually and you can always check store reviews when in doubt. Of course, if the shop is not there it does not mean they are not legit, but if they are they are probably too local, too new or too small.
Also, paradoxplaza is the best place to order if you want to support the devs ;)

Hmm I'd be careful with these little companies, I brought Atilla from a company called cdkeys.com with no problems at all so when the pre-order for Stellaris came up on their site with a really good price I tried to order it, my card was declined and I immediately received a text on my phone from my bank that said :-

"We have noticed a transaction was declined on your credit card for blah, blah, etc, etc, Please confirm by replying Y if the above transaction is yours or N if it is not."

"Y"

"Thank you for confirming, we will continue to monitor transactions to protect your account"

Needless to say this totally spooked me and it was obvious that something was very dodgy about this site so I went straight to GMG and using the same card Pre-ordered on their site instead.

I've since seen warnings made my Paradox that some game sites are selling fraudulently obtained keys which reminded me of my message, as they are their own distributor I must say it would be much easier if Paradox would just list all of the authorized sellers (not bother with links) at the same time they post the Pre-order details.

Didn't even consider that in my eagerness to save mony, but that's also important ro be aware of I think. I really like Paradox and think that they're great in the way that they interact with the community, plus they make some really awesome games. So I would ofc like to support them as much as I can.

I am a bit ignorant as to how it actually works with these retailers, but I guess that they (the legit ones) buy a bunch of keys from Paradox at a low cost and then are free to set the resell price and compeet on that. So Paradox still get paid for the keys that the retailers sell, but not so much as if you would buy the game directly from Paradox?

Yes, retailers get a cut, otherwise they would not bother. Some stay at recommended price because they can afford it (STEAM...), some have lower price because they base their business model on low profit high volume (GMG...) and some have lower price beause they get special region discounts for poorer regions (which could be offset by regional locks, depending on distributor)... in the end, Paradox always get most from their own shop, as any other entity selling from their own shop, but are happy to sell anywhere as a lower profit sale is still better than no sale :)

Thanks for the info wingo.
That cleared it up for me and I will definately take it into consideration when I decide what version to buy, and where (pay more to support Paradox vs. pay less to get more stuff - the latter being a bit egocentrick I know :()

No, it's just called being good with your money. That's how capitalism works my friend - if you can find the same product cheaper elsewhere, why not buy it?

They are legit, I have purchased games from them including stellaris and the field marshal edition today.

i would, but "geo lock" for my region is a "market lock". german customers cannot buy where it is cheapest.
with that in mind the penny is being dropped: geo lock uses the german versions censorship (which is totaly fine) as its vehicle.

noone should support such business practices. hence i will not buy the game at all, which i waited for so long.

I also bought off Imperial (after chatting with their online people a bit) - for those complaining about differential pricing, try being in the UK....

I also buy from GMG sometimes.

I would like to support Paradox more, and sometimes buy expansions and the like from their sales, but their pricing for the UK is at what might best be described as a disadvantageous exchange rate.

Imperial's price in Canadian for the Cadet edition is nearly identical to the 25% price from buying it from GMG when converted to Canadian.

Either way, its nice to see more authorized sites out there.

Yesterday I've been on an e-mail conversation with PDX support, because of an issue regarding integrated GPUs. In one of the e-mails I provided a link to Mac Games Store, where they stated that my machine would run the game (Intel integrated GPU), when neither PDX or Steam gave any information about it. In the reply they told me that "they are indeed one of our partner stores". There's a sister site Win Games Store, but a Steam key is a Steam key anyway... Good prices there!

To figure out if the store is legit, if they offer many different options for the same game and the same edition (key or gift, regional keys, encourage the use of VPNs), or the keys for any of the games are "out of stock": big bright red light and big pirate flag alerts!

Other thing I do is to read their ToS and privacy policy in every language I speak. If the text doesn't make sense in English or the translations are obviously made by Google or a bot: big red light! Other precaution is to ask ICANN whois for the information on the site domain: owner, location, etc. If it's owned by a person and located somewhere "reliable" where the money can be traced (US, Canada, EU members, etc.), good; if the site is owned by some company located in territories where you would open accounts to evade taxes, bad.

And last: If they only feature the hottest and latest games, hmmm, suspiciuos; if they sell every single PDX content (old games, DLCs, units-portrais-songs packs), they must have some sort of arrangement with the publisher. I can't imagine a pirate using a bogus credit card or bitcoins obtained on silk road to buy bulk keys of "Iberian portraits pack for CK2".

So in my humble opinion, Imperial should be OK.

Why nobody form PDX confirms this in the forum? Because it is not in their interest. In the first post in the preorder/FAQ thread, they say they earn more money if content is bought directly from them. Of course they mention Steam, it's required to play the game and everybody knows them, and "other major retailers". BTW after the e-mail in which the nice PDX guy told me about the partnership, my next question was answered by someone else in a totally different tone (still polite though).

GMG is a trustworthy site that I've used for just about all my PDS purchases. You can almost always snag 20% your purchase even on release day, and for HOI4 I got the 25% off deal. I paid for Field Marshal what some were paying for whatever 2nd tier was called. I'd prefer to buy direct from PDS, but I'm a price conscious buyer and no-one has consistently beaten the market more than GMG has.

Be careful with other third party sites, though, especially with ones that advertise like +40% off a brand new title. While GMG is pretty fantastic, it's a rare diamond in an absolute sea of rough.

Ok, so I bought the Colonel Edition from them. Got the key in minutes, activated on Steam. Thank you for all your answers. I also checked on Google, other threads and finally made my mind.
