i'd like to again suggest that the buying and selling of provinces was normal in pre-17th century Europe... that the idea of nationalism wasn't developed enough to make "bodies living within a boundary" think that they had a necessary relationship to the larger politic... that the provinces were property for the owners of the provinces, and could be traded like any other property.

a look at the regions in pre-world war two "Italy" suggests that this isn't just a Medieval concept... that people's loyalties were to the church and to the village; after the family, of course.

That would be a fun feature to have. I usually play economic games of EU, so this would be a cool feature, i could expand and still play my usualy economic games without many wars. Good Idea.

Well, during the CK era buying and selling provinces wasn't really that common - as a matter of fact I can't think of any considerable example from the top of my head even now. The early EU2 period is something different - however in classical feudal systems rulers simply didn't have enough cash to buy or sell land - plus land was considered the highest commodity, and no feudal lord would be stupid enough to sell his "title to authority" for a bunch of coins.

Richard the Lionheart selling Cyprus to the Templars?
The Templars selling it later to Guy de Lusignan?

I can't think of any more examples now...

If you were in dire need for cash you could sell off a county or so from a large holding?

Godfrey of Bouillon sold his lands (to his relatives?) before starting the First Crusade. It was one of the reasons that he was chosen over Raymond for Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre.

At the RPG forum i suggested selling and buying land, i think it would be a great idea, because you have to need much to go to crusade.

Yes,it would be a good idea.I love playing with minor states, building a strong economy, and it would be good to buy with Siebenbürgen an Austrian/Hungarian province.

Since CK will only let you gain lands that you have a clear claim to, "selling lands" would be a very little used function...unless one could sell the lands that they were just holding at the time.

You could sell the claim? Personally I hope this will only be implemented for conquered muslim territories...

As long as the player can't "cheat" the AI out of land I would think it should be a part of the game. One of the big land deals was Cyprus and that wasn't held by Muslims during the times that all the swapping and sellin went on. Of course since this this is more of an exception perhaps there could be an event to cover it with certain ownership triggers.:)

Yes, this is something I would like to see, but this thread only talks about buying or selling provinces..

How about using provinces as security for loans?
IMO, this was far more freqvent during this time period. You could loose a province to a loangiver and actually give loans with provinces as security.
Another option was to give a loan and receive a province income as payment.

What do u think?
