how to make a good profit? there are lot of threads discussing it on this page, but in short: metro lines through the dense areas with lots of connections and tram+bus lines to feed the metro stations in the outskirts.

The number of vehicles on a line is also very important. On the 2nd Vienna scenario, I have less lines (50-55% of coverage) but I make more money...

I don't start in airports, malls or railway stations. Because I start with buses and in those place you won't be able to keep up with the demand and your reputation will drop.
Reputation is very important because if it's good you have more passengers.
A good profit usually starts when you setup your metro lines connecting the network you already have. If you cover a fair area you don't have to worry about where to connect because it will be profitable.
