So, I have over 30 hours of gameplay under my belt and I've been wondering - what is the point of bus lanes if cars end up clogging them up anyway? Every time there's an intersection with a right turn, instead of turning from the neighbouring lane, the cars pull into the bus lane. Sometimes this happens a long way before the actual intersection, and during rush hour, when the cars pile up, this effectively blocks the entire lane off and strands the buses in traffic. This is especially frustrating if I have a bus stop to which they're trying to get to and I can't reroute via way points (which I shouldn't have a need to do, that's why I have a fracking bus lane to begin with!!!).

I've also noticed that sometimes cars ignore red lights and line through the intersection, blocking opposite traffic.

While in both cases this may be exactly what inconsiderate drivers do in real life, this is a sim, with mechanisms clearly designed to prevent those types of problems from appearing. How are you guys dealing with these issues?

I've noticed the bus lane thing as well, but to be honest, that's the way it works in my city (Ottawa, Canada). And yes, it usually causes a mess. But if the cars didn't do that, they'd never be able to turn right. I think that part's pretty realistic.

Oh believe me, I do understand how things work in the real world. I see that kind of behaviour all the time (even in places where it's expressly forbidden). Nevertheless, this is still a game with a clear rule set. If a two lane road or an avenue has a bus lane and buses are funneled into it by design, it's a reasonable expectation that cars should treat this lane as disabled and use the next available lane. Isn't that the point of having this simulated in-game? Otherwise, what's the point? Might as well use a two-lane road or a three-lane avenue with parking spaces instead. At least that way the stops are easier to access.

As others have pointed out, this does happen in real life and most of it is perfectly legal. Where I live (Melbourne, Australia), it is legal to use a bus lane for up to 100m before an intersection if you are turning. However, having said that, I do agree with your point about the in-game rules/setting so hopefully something happens with this :)

I think it's forgivable considering how most people drive in real life in grid-locked traffic. I've seem it happen numerous times.

That's why there's cop cars patrolling in game
Those crooked cops who use their police cars to hoon around town for non police business?! They're about as useful as the army of transit officers in my employ.

It does bug me a bit though when traffic gets gridlocked on a freeway off ramp and half the traffic is going back onto the same freeway....
