Burned down buildings and deaths seem to be excessive

I've watched in excess of 18hrs of Let's Play footage over 6 different YouTuber's and the biggest worry and issues I've seen so far is fire and death.

Seems that if you leave one area for a little while, your return and everything has burned down, now you must delete it all manually and allow it to rebuild. I cannot think of any modern city with adequate fire service (which the let's players had), that has that many severe fires.

I feel CO need to tone this down a bit and have the building auto demolish after a certain amount of time so we don't have to keep going around demolishing burnt buildings.

Similar issue exists for deaths, I know death happens, but this much? In a town of 20,000 you need 7-8 cemeteries and 3-4 crematoriums? This I feel needs balancing as well.

On a positive not, this game looks amazing, I cannot wait to get my hands on it and play for years to come. Huge Well done to those who made it.

I agree with the deaths, seems a bit to much and making it a bit morbid as well. Possibly maybe plop a few cemeteries, and then you won't have to worry about it. Making it something like power and water usage is a bit too much I believe.

Buildings do auto-demolish after a certain period time. You just have to wait for someone to come and take the property over.

Not saying you are wrong, but I think you are wrong.

Abandoned buildings will auto demolish and rebuild, burned won't. This is based on a lot of videos I've seen and lets players commenting on it.

Yeah, it seems so, but I hope thats due to the videos being a pre-release version. It'd be quite absurd if they really wont be auto-demolished.

I don't think death is the issue, I think that the icons telling you there's a dead body start flashing WAY too soon and get in the way of other info icons, honestly I think the dead-body icon should only start flashing after the body hasn't been collected for at least 5 or so minutes - I do wonder if a dead body in a building raises chance of sickness?

Just wait till you hit that 120k mark the number you need of both gets pretty ridiculous.

have you seen what happens when you put you water intake below your sewage? most of the city just dies. you would think it wouldn't be quite that deadly.

Have you ever drank sewage water? (I hope not) cholera is a hell of deadly and horrible disease in which the modern world likely has very little immune defence to even start trying to eradicate.

I have a bit the same feeling with fire departments, and maybe with universities. In my town, around 20.000 people, 1 small fire station, no university. And yes I know that comparing to reality is not always fair, but some tweaking would not hurt ...

I think most of the people who play tend to forget that it's not the capacity that is important but the fact that the undertaker need to go to the place to get the dead.

In other word, if your undertaker need to do a long trip to get the dead, there might be 2 more dead people in the city. And then again he needs to get one...
They are all playing with the old statistical point of view but now it's not because you have a capacity of 1M corps that you will indeed be able to handle 1M corps.

And I'm not even speaking about the traffic that makes this even more difficult.

Well, cholera is easily treatable, so with a good medical system it whould not cause many deaths.
[exactly: 1% mortality rate if treated, 50% if not]
Of course it doesn't mean that we should drink sewage water ;)

Quoted from wikipedia
"If people with cholera are treated quickly and properly, the mortality rate is less than 1%; however, with untreated cholera, the mortality rate rises to 50–60%.[2][42] For certain genetic strains of cholera, such as the one present during the 2010 epidemic in Haiti and the 2004 outbreak in India, death can occur within two hours of becoming ill"

Treatment for cholera is principally the swift oral re-hydration of patients, in a city with no clean water this would be hard to do. Modern healthcare relies heavily on the provision of safe living conditions rather than treatment and can be quickly overwhelmed in times of epidemic.

While true, boiling water kills the bacterias. Not drinking unboiled water is also important part of prevention (thats why beer was known as a perfect way to fight the epidemia, before introduction of modern hygiene and antibiotics. It was the only comon bewerage in which water was boiled and has relatively low alcohol. Still drinking 5+ bottles of beer a day isn't exactly the healthies thing, but better than cholera).
Nevertheless, it's going a bit off-topic. For sure supplying the city with untreated sewage water should cause massive health problems, just not necesserly cholera epidemic.

Are people over-thinking this.

Bottom line, this is a game. It is meant as a reasonable city simulation made to run on computers that we have. It is not by any means an in-depth simulation of life in all it's aspects. And if you have a 20000 pop city the things that happen won't match what happens in real life 20000 pop city.

The game mechanics in play may over or under-emphasise real world occurrences, so you'll get bad traffic layout leading to mega deaths as ambulances fail to reach sick people, houses burning down left right and center as Fire Engines are stuck in that one way loop you put in the wrong place, cemeteries overwhelmed with dead because you've poisoned your population.

That's the gameplay, those are the challenges.

Anyway that's just a thought.

I think fire and death are fine, it adds some late game challenge and can be easily adjusted after a some minutes. I rather wish they would tweak crime rate a little and also make it more challenging. There should never ever be a crime rate of 0%
