After playing 3 gamers in 1.32 and doing a few AI only runs. In all the cases Burgundy still suicided by attacking Liege. What are peoples experiences. Does this still happen frequently or has the behavior stopped for you?

Charles gonna Charles: he's an idiot. RM/Ally Burgundy and keep calling them into your wars so that Charles doesn't squander your inheritance. Make liberal use of favors to keep them preparing for war while you're doing something else; that seemed to keep Chuck on a leash.

Thx for answering was mostly to gauge if the fix to the AI in 1.32 is working or not. It was suppose to stop this/making it less prone to. Taking call-ins, in wars more into consideration.. I just havent noticed any difference. Others might have had tho.

I always thought that was intentional, and pretty historical (see the Burgundian Wars brought about by Charles annexing Bar and Lorraine - not Liege, but still HRE stuff). He's a scripted bold fighter for a reason, and bold fighters run suicide wars by ignoring allies (at least I believe that's how it works).

My bad: I edited out the opening sentence wherein I stated this was a result of my experience in a 1.32 game as Austria where I observed Chuck suiciding himself into France with reckless abandon.

I've been playing a casual France game and yeah, one annoying thing is Burgundy declared war on the emperor and didn't even call me in - I had to declare a separate humiliate rival war on Austria and kill their army to protect him.

A trick that I use is to mark Liege as hostile. I’ll also mark any nation that joins against Burgundy as hostile. I’ve gone so far as to insult Liege, mark hostile, and restart the game. It seams to work, but I’m not sure how much all that stuff really helps. It may be all in my head.

I agree the AI isn't always judging the situation accurately here, but it's not as suicidal as seems on first glance, mainly because Burgundy and their vassals have so many forts Burgundy can easily doomstack and pick off the various armies trying to siege them down, so if they're patient enough they can peace out the small fry and eventually take Liege without even peacing out Austria.

That’s not the worst thing. The worst thing is that if they do manage not to get hammered in the war, usually due to player intervention, they pillage capital and then do it all over again once the truce is over.

Its not just the ‘bold fighter’ trait. That probably makes it worse but it’s more than that.

I think the issue is related to Burgundy not understanding the strength of the enemy.
They expect to fight Liege, it’s allies and Austria. It does not expect Austria’s allies also. And those can be a big difference if it’s Hungary and Bohemia.

I think this is a bug in the game. It does the same for the player. If you attack someone in the HRE it will tell you that the war target allies and the emperor will join in but does not tell you the emperors allies will also join. If it miss informs you it is likely it is also misinforming Burgundy. (putting bad data into the algorithm to make the AI check the risk)

This has been discussed here before. Paradox need to fix it.
