april 29th Evening
Lochlan had come to a decision. The company was starting to fill out, and as far as his experience went, Lochlan thought they were more than adequately filling the roles necessary for an independant company. They now had cavalry, scout cavalry, infantry, archers, even siege equipment. But there was one area that he could think of that they were falling behind in. That area was scouts, those new light cavalry were very good, but subtlety is not really a cavalry trait.
He wandered looking through the encampment, searching for De Bloomfield. Lochlan wanted to get his opinions on the idea before he presented it to Captain. He saw the Lieutenant sitting at a fire on the eastern side of the encampment, talking with sgt. Scherer. As he approached, they broke off their conversation and looked at him inquiringly.
"Can either of us help you with something?" Scherer asked.
"Actually you can sargeant, I had some idea's I wanted to run by you." Lochlan went on to describe his idea's about a small scout unit, perhaps five to ten men, well trained, and experienced. He figured between himself and Lord Greystoke's man Buckeye they could train some decent scouts. And he thought this sort of flexible force would be very useful to the company.
When he finished, Bloomfield and Scherer were silent for a moment or two. then Scherer said. "What kind of experience are you looking for?" At the same time De Bloomfield asked. "I see your point but how would you see your role on the battlefield?"
And the conversation lasted long into the night, covering scouting, weapons, tactics, and then eventually women. As was fairly standard around many company campfires.
